Looking to buy a holiday home? It’s hardly a surprise that Spain’s gorgeous beaches, relaxed lifestyle and sunny weather attract plenty of second home owners.
But where are the country’s best areas to buy a second home? While Barcelona and Madrid are tempting choices for city lovers, many Britons opt to purchase property near the coast.
According to the property experts at idealista, there are a few coastal areas Britons might want to consider for a second home.
A spokesperson said: “Imagine waking up to the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore, with the sun’s rays dancing on the water’s surface.
“This dream can become a reality in Spain, a country blessed with countless stunning beachfront locations.”

Costa del Sol
Spain’s Costa del Sol topped the list at idealista. The spokesperson said: “This area is renowned for its beautiful beaches, vibrant nightlife and world-class golf courses. Owning a beach house here means you’re never far from the heart of the action.”
Some of the region’s most popular areas for a second home are Marbella, Benalmadena, Estepona and Fuengirola.
Second home owners who want to enjoy a mix of city and beach life could consider buying a property in Malaga.

Costa Blanca
Buyers looking for more “tranquillity” should look at Spain’s quieter Costa Blanca region. The coastal area is one of the most popular areas to buy a second home.
While it’s home to busy resorts including Benidorm and Torrevieja, the region also has several quieter villages.
Buyers will generally find lower prices in the Costa Blanca than on the Costa del Sol or Balearic islands.
Costa Brava
Spain’s Costa Brava region is slightly less well-known than the regions at the top of the list but could be the ideal destination for people looking for peace and quiet.
The spokesperson said: “Costa Brava offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Its rugged coastline, secluded coves and picturesque fishing village make it a unique location for a beach house.”
Britons should be aware they can spend 90 out of every 180 days in Spain without a visa since the UK left the EU.
