Cheapest destinations to fly to in September – under £25

Whether Britons are yet to book a summer holiday or already feeling the urge to get away again, September is a fantastic time to take a break.

The summer heat has usually died down and some of Europe’s top attractions are far less crowded than during peak season. But where are the cheapest destinations?

Express.co.uk scoured Skyscanner to find the cheapest flights for a break in September. From charming cities in southern France to Scandinavian adventures, there are plenty of spots with flights on offer for under £25.

Britons will need to check the cost of accommodation before they book and some flights may require passengers to pay extra to bring hold luggage. However, with these flight attendant tips, there might not be a need to travel with anything more than hand luggage.

Flight prices tend to rise the sooner it gets to the departure date so it’s usually best to snap up a ticket as soon as possible.

Ireland

Express.co.uk found return flights from Liverpool to Dublin for just £16 while Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff, Nottingham, Newcastle, Birmingham and Glasgow all had flights costing £20 or less.

The Irish capital has plenty of attractions to explore. Tourists can head to the Guinness Storehouse to get a behind the scenes look at how the “Black Stuff” is made. At the Irish Emigration Museum, tourists will hear the stories from Irish people who left the country.

In the evening, it’s worth visiting Temple Bar to hear live music and enjoy a pint in one of the neighbourhood’s traditional pubs.

France

Express.co.uk found return flights to Nimes for just £22 from London and under £45 from Edinburgh. The pretty city in southern France has some of Europe’s most fascinating Roman ruins.

The Arena of Nimes is one of the world’s best preserved Roman amphitheatres. Once used for wild animal hunts and gladiator fights, tourists can learn about the site’s colourful history on a visit.

At the Jardins de la Fontaine, the city’s main park, tourists will find many well preserved Roman ruins. A tourist wrote on Tripadvisor: “Gorgeous formal water gardens full of scented Linden trees, this is a wonderful place for a walk.”

Express.co.uk found return flights to Aalborg for just £23 from London. There were flights to Billund for under £25 from Manchester, London, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

In Aalborg, tourists can wander the Old Town’s cobbled streets or relax by the city’s picturesque waterfront. If the temperature obliges, why not take a dip in Aalborg’s pretty outdoor pool?

Billund is the birthplace of Lego and unsurprisingly the city’s main attraction is Legoland. Children will love the park’s attractions while Lego House’s interactive exhibits make the museum well worth a visit.
