Flight attendants say they swear by £5 make-up for all short-haul flights

A flight attendant has claimed there’s one beauty product she would always take on the plane when flying – even short haul. Most of us have a few must-haves whether it’s a great moisturiser, an under eye mask to keep us looking perky or an essential oil that helps us sleep on the plain, but the cabin crew member’s item costs just £4.30.

In an article for Conde Nast Traveller, Alexia Efthymiadou and Ianis Claman, flight attendants for easyJet, revealed their top makeup and skincare products for the plane. The top pick was a cheap item that they say massively helps them to avoid damage to their complexions.

The pair explained that they both pack a lip moisturising stick from Nuxe Rêve de Miel. Alexia said: "I’m a big fan of using high-quality make-up products – we have limited time on our short-haul flights.

"I tend to use a spray mist on top of my make-up to hydrate my face if I feel it becoming dry, and I always pack hand cream (we need to wash our hands frequently on board, so our hands can get quite dry mid-flight). I keep close to hand my lip moisturising stick from Nuxe Rêve de Miel."

The lip balm can be found at online retailers like Parfumdreams for just £4.30. Those who want to grab one on the high street can find it at some M&S stores for £7 or at Superdrug for £11.46.

The lip balm claims to use 100% natural ingredients to keep your lips from drying out. The website states: "Honey and organic sunflower oil, softens very dry lips and makes them more supple throughout the day. Sensations of tightness are relieved."

One of the least comfortable aspects of plane travel is the effect it can have on your skin (and lips). The air in the cabin is pressurised and has a low humidity which can dehydrate skin leading to tightness and chapped lips and nostrils.

Liberty Mills, a certified Integrative health professional told Daily Star: "The dry air in the cabin can further dehydrate the skin, causing discomfort and potentially leading to issues such as itching or irritation."

So packing a good lip balm and a moisturiser can really keep to keep skin and lips plump and soft rather than cracked or dry. For this reason, Liberty also suggests avoiding hot showers before a flight.

She told the Daily Star: "Showering before taking a flight is generally not recommended due to several factors that can affect the comfort and well-being of passengers during the flight. While there is no strict rule against showering before flying, it is important to consider the potential consequences and make an informed decision based on personal circumstances.

"One of the main reasons why showering before a flight is discouraged is the effect it can have on the body's natural oils and moisture balance. Showering with hot water and using soap can strip away the natural oils that help keep the skin moisturised. "This can lead to dryness and dehydration, which can be exacerbated by the low humidity levels in airplane cabins."
