Survey shows that travel advisors have lots of new clients

Evidence continues to suggest travelers want to work with travel advisors more than ever.

According to an ASTA member survey, 27% of respondents said that more than half of their clients are working with an advisor for the first time.

The survey also pointed to the positive business environment for agencies right now, with 81% reporting an increase in sales over last year.

“Business is booming, and travel advisors continue to be a vital part of the travel industry,” ASTA president and CEO Zane Kerby said. “Advisors continue to bring their clients elevated experiences, peace of mind and unmatched customer service. Those will never go out of style.”

ASTA surveyed 717 members this spring.

Travel advisors charging fees

More than half of advisors charge professional fees, according to the ASTA survey.

The majority of advisors who employ fees charge between $100 and $300. Fees encompass research, consultation, planning, ticketing and flat fees, the Society said.

Where are clients going?

According to survey results, ASTA said its members’ top destinations right now are Europe, the Caribbean and Alaska.

Alaska is the most popular destination in North America, surpassing Mexico and Hawaii.

In Europe, advisors are mostly selling Italy, France and the U.K.

In the Caribbean, the top islands are the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos and Puerto Rico.
