It's easy to order GrubHub from home. But now, you can order from your hotel on your next trip to Las Vegas.

Resorts World Las Vegas just announced a special partnership with the mobile delivery app Grubhub. The resort's "On the Fly" offering allows guests to conveniently order and charge the cost to their room or credit card via the Grubhub app from the resort's 40 restaurants and retail shops that will deliver straight to the room. In addition, guests can also order and get their delivery at the resort's 5.5-acre pool complex.

"We're excited to bring our integrated tech solution to Resort World and its guests," said Brian Madigan, vice president of campus and corporate partners at Grubhub, in a statement. "Our goal has always been to make ordering food as easy and convenient as possible for hungry diners, and this mobile ordering experience at Resorts World is our latest proof point of that – effectively enabling dinners to order from their favorite resort eateries from the tips of their fingers."

To order, guests can simply open the GrubHub app on their phones or scan the Grubhub QR codes located all around the resort. Then, they can find all kinds of different cuisines at restaurants around the property, including Famous Foods Street Eats (the property's 16-stall culinary marketplace that features foods from around the world), Craig's Vegan (a vegan ice cream parlor), Wally's Wine & Spirits, and many more. From there, guests can either pay by credit card or charge it to their room. For deliveries to the pool, guests will be able to pick up their order from a secure, QR code-activated restaurant locker, which features touchless opening.

This is the first time GrubHub has partnered with a hotel or casino to give customers the convenience of delivery, especially while in-room dining is severely limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. By allowing delivery and touchless pick-up, the resort can continue to commit to CDC-recommended guidelines for health and safety.

For more information or to make a booking for your next trip, visit the Resorts World Las Vegas website.

Whether it's a hot toddy après ski, a refreshing frozen drink on the beach, or finding a local craft beer, sometimes great travel memories come from the perfect cocktail (as long as you don't have too many.) T+L asked our A-List of trusted travel advisors about their favorite placed to grab a drink around the world, from no-frills beer joints to elegant hotel bars.

The Wigmore Pub, London

One of my favorite London pubs is at Langham Hotel. The Wigmore is an ideal place to rest your weary legs after a day of shopping on Regent Street. The Signature XXL Cheese Toastie is a triumph, and goes along nicely with Bloody Mary fat chips and a refreshing G&T, or pint of English Ale. There are abundant people watching moments given that the BBC Television Studios are located opposite the pub, so there is lots of familiar face spotting! – Nicola Butler, Noteworthy

The Rémy Bar, St. Barths

Located in the center of the Sand Bar restaurant, the Rémy Bar pays tribute to the Eden Rock Hotel's original and adventurous owner, Rémy de Haenen. At the charming, old-world bar (where they even named a one-of-a-kind cocktail after my company, The KK Mule) interior designer, Martin Brudnizki perfectly blends British-colonial style with a chic island vibe. –Kristin Korey Pike, KK Travels Worldwide

Hotel Maury, Lima

It is certainly not fancy, but I do like to recommend clients stop in at the Hotel Maury in downtown Lima to order a Pisco sour from the bar that invented it back in the 1930s, and whose décor (and bar staff, I sometimes think) have barely changed since. For something a little more sophisticated the cocktails at Hotel B's bar in Lima's Barranco neighborhood are some of the best and most creative I've had anywhere in Latin America. It's no wonder as head barman Alex Romero recently won best bartender in Peru. In the summer you can take your drinks up to the rooftop- the perfect location for a peaceful sundowner with a cooling Pacific Ocean breeze. Thomas Robinson, Dehouche

The Long Bar, Singapore

If you're on a larger Indonesia or Malaysia trip, time in Singapore is a must, and it doesn't get more classic than the bar at the Raffles Hotel where the famous cocktail "the Singapore Sling" originated. – Jarrod Hobson, ATJ Travel

Fabrica de Arte Cubano, Havana

Housed in a former cooking oil factory, the Fabrica de Arte Cubano is a creative mega-space with several bars and a rotating collection of avant-garde Cuban artists, several different live music performance spaces, and a great little restaurant, Tierra, on the roof. But for something even more exclusive, pop up bars in Havana are some of the coolest options. They usually last for just a few months before they move onto another destination, and only locals (and really well connected visitors like our clients) will get in. The last one before the pandemic was on the roof of a "solar" (communal apartment building) in Old Havana, where the next door neighbor "rented" her bathroom facilities for a few cents. It doesn't get more real than that! At these bars will be the poets, artists, musicians, models and some of the best music and craft cocktails you'll find in the city. –Joe Sandillo, Almaz Journeys

Silverton Hotel, Australia

Going to the middle of the Aussie outback to the remote Silverton Hotel for an incredibly Australian pub experience (via small plane flight is the easiest way!) This is a Mad Max-style pub no one forgets-in fact quite a few movies, ads and shows have been filmed at this iconic drinking hole (Mission Impossible II, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Dirty Deeds and so many more). You are sure to have some serious belly laughs over a cold beer in this almost ghost town destination. – Cassandra Bookholder, Camelback Odyssey Travel

McSorley’s Old Ale House, New York

Established in 1854, this East Village watering hole is the oldest saloon in New York, and the interiors remain untouched by time. It's basically a time capsule. – Tesa Totengco, Travels With Tesa

The Silo Rooftop Bar, Cape Town

For me, sitting at the rooftop bar atop The Silo Hotel in Cape Town, as I look out over Table Mountain and Lions Head with the sunlight fading into the sea, the hues of gold and pink, red and yellow are unforgettable. The memory of the evening sky and perfect drink in-hand will stay with me forever. – Nina Wennersten, Hippo Creek Safaris

What we eat has a major impact on the health of the planet. Luckily, there are people like Kyle Lee, a 29-year-old Alaskan fisherman, who are here to deliver more sustainable dishes to our dining tables.

"Did you know much of wild-caught fish goes through processors, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers until it finally reaches the consumer," Lee says. "We deserve fresher seafood, fewer people handling the product, and Alaskan Salmon [Lee's company] removes all middlemen to go from 'fishermen-to-doorstep.'"

Lee grew up sportfishing on the Kenai River every summer alongside his father where he developed his love for being out on the water. While attending college, he had his first taste of commercial fishing life, where he "recognized the disconnect in the quality of salmon in the states and what was back in my freezer in Alaska."

So, he began to research to find a better way to deliver fresher wild-caught Alaskan seafood without all the extras that muddy the process.

"After earning a finance degree from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, I had a decision to make: either accept the job offer and join the corporate world or continue fishing. I knew I could always find a job in an office somewhere, but to have the opportunity to fish in some of the world's most beautiful and unseen areas of Alaska was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he says.

In 2015, he purchased a commercial fishing boat and started the Alaskan Salmon Company, a direct-from-the-dock salmon operation allowing at-home cooks and seafood enthusiasts to pre-order salmon you could otherwise only find in fine-dining establishments.

While Lee wants to make it clear that not all fisheries are the same, he does implore people to always attempt to buy Alaskan. "[Alaskan] fisheries are the gold standard in actual sustainability practices. In regards to salmon, it is more than just a lifestyle for us Alaskans. It is deeply rooted in our traditions," he says. "Many rural communities depend on the annual salmon runs to provide access to their only source of protein for the year, which is why Alaska is the only state to have sustainable fishing written into its constitution. "

The company, he notes, implemented meticulous steps to handle the fish as minimally as possible to keep it as "mother nature intended it to be." Along the way, Lee removed 7-10 of those pesky middlemen, meaning consumers get a fresher tasting bite and the knowledge it's coming from the source with fewer fossil fuels involved, and also from higher-paid employees.

"We hope to inspire people to have the confidence to cook more seafood at home and we will continue to provide transparency and education about our fisheries and seafood, and of course more delicious recipes," he says. As for his favorite way to prepare his own stock, Lee says it's best raw.

"When you eat it raw, you get more of the umami flavor. Copper River King salmon is called the King of Kings for a reason. It melts in your mouth and the flavor profile is insane," he says. "When I cook it, I am pretty light on the seasoning because the salmon already has so much flavor on its own, and I don't want to mask any of it. When I have the time, I love to make lox out of it for future snacking."

Get your own salmon and learn more about the company's sustainability efforts here.

Ask any local what makes St. Croix stand apart from its sister U.S. Virgin Islands and they'll tell you: our food. Here on the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, our culinary traditions were influenced not only by Africa and Denmark during the colonial era, but also by our Caribbean neighbors, who immigrated here steadily throughout the 20th century.

As I tell guests on my Virgin Islands Food Tours, we consider our island to be the culinary gateway to the Caribbean, and firmly believe that "when belly full, bahna glad." Translation: When you've eaten a good meal, you're happy. Sample these essential Crucian eats the next time you're here, and I guarantee you'll be happy, too.

Fraco

Fraco (pronounced fray-ko) is the Virgin Island version of a snow cone, and nothing beats the heat better than this frozen treat. A heaping cup of crushed ice is topped with a generous pour of syrup in a variety of flavors, such as banana, almond, tamarind, coconut, and passion fruit. Visit Ms. Charlene's stall, next to the post office in downtown Christiansted, for the best fraco in town.

Gooseberry Ice Cream

You can't visit St. Croix without trying gooseberry ice cream, and Armstrong's Homemade Ice Cream is the place to get it. The company dates back to 1900 and still produces its ice cream using an original Danish recipe, which the family adapted and made their own. One of their most popular flavors is gooseberry, crafted from the small, yellow, and incredibly tart fruit that we like to boil with sugar into a "stew" and enjoy as a snack. Incorporating this whole-fruit stew into ice cream makes for a decadent dessert, but be careful of the tiny seeds.

Johnny Cake

This fried bread is a traditional island favorite, enjoyed any time of day. It was originally known as "journey cake" because people would eat it on their way to work. Over time, "journey" became "Johnny," but the flavor remained the same. Crunchy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside, this unleavened bread is carefully kneaded and then fried to golden perfection. It's best paired with a fried chicken leg or chicken roasted on an open grill from La Reine Chicken Shack.

Paté

Not to be confused with a Jamaican patty, this delicious handheld favorite — similar to an empanada — has a crispy, crunchy pastry crust. Stuffed with spiced beef, saltfish (salted cod), chicken, conch, lobster, or veggies, it's the perfect island snack when paired with fresh local juice, such as passion fruit or tamarind. Rosa's Booth in Frederiksted is a good place to try one.

Pot Fish and Fungi

This unofficial dish of the U.S. Virgin Islands dates back to the days of slavery. The fish is typically red snapper, fried to a crisp and then cooked down in a rich tomato-based gravy. Fungi (pronounced foon-ji) is similar in texture to polenta. Prepared with cornmeal, okra, salt, and butter, its mildness is a perfect complement to the flavorful fish. Dig in at Gertrude's Restaurant in Christiansted.

Anquanette Gaspard is a food and travel entrepreneur, freelance writer, and social media influencer who uses her platforms to share the beauty of the Caribbean. Born and raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, she shares her experiences on her blog, CruzanFoodie.com.

Bill Nye may be giving mini science lessons to the Gen-Z set on TikTok these days, but his latest partnership with Bombay Sapphire may resonate more with his longtime fans from the 1990s.

"If you're going to have a spirit, gin is my absolutely preferred spirit," he told Travel + Leisure in a recent interview. "Gin and tonic, I would normally drink [them] in the summertime but in the last few weeks I've had a few and they're excellent."

Specifically, Nye, known for his wacky experiments that have made their way from the '90s educational series for kids, Bill Nye The Science Guy, to the trendy social media platform, has turned to Bombay Sapphire's canned gin and tonic for his latest observations.

"Not only is the gin and tonic flavor excellent in the can, but the bubbles are great," he said. "I'm not a foodie, but [experts] talk about mouthfeel — the size of the bubbles and the distance between the bubbles is controlled by these mythic things called the essential oils. I'm pretty sure the 'essential' means the essence of the things that give it the flavor, the bubbles have a particular smoothness that I think gives it the flavor that I find really appealing."

When he's not analyzing the depth of flavor in a canned cocktail, the scientist and TV personality has kept himself busy during the past year making science demos for his 7 million followers on TikTok. And even though the video app may have just come around the social media sphere, Nye drew from his television days to make his posts resonate.

"TikTok is my style, I should have invented it," he joked, explaining that a 45-second bit was a general rule of thumb to keep his young audience entertained on TV. Beyond educational TikTok though, Nye, like the rest of us, enjoys a scroll through the various viral posts.

"Cat videos are important because they make us happy," he said.

@billnye

I don't know who needs to hear this but… ##masks work. Wear one. Carry on… ##tiktokpartner ##learnontiktok♬ original sound – Bill Nye

Nye uses Tik Tok to not only share fun experiments on entropy and his pizza making but to spread knowledge and awareness about COVID-19. Like many Americans these days, he's been very cautious and stayed home throughout the past year — he perfected his bread baking skills and makes sure to go on long walks and bike rides — and is now fully vaccinated.

"If we can get 70% of people vaccinated, then we can have a normal life again," he said when talking about the pandemic. "If people insist on screwing it up by not wearing masks [and] spreading these variants around, and getting everybody sick again, it's gonna be a drag."

As for when we do have "a normal life again," Nye couldn't pick just one place when asked where he'd like to travel to when it's safe to do so.

"I've never been to Berlin," he said. "People talk about the architecture, I'd like to see it and I'd like to go back to London. I've been [there] a few times and I always have a great time. I'd like to go back to Paris, I'd like to go back to the Louvre. If you're from the U.S. Hawaii is pretty good, there are cash machines and blue Hawaiian surf and snorkeling and I look forward to going back there. Then I have dear friends in Seattle, I lived there for 26 years so I'm looking forward to going back, and then I'd like to go to Australia and New Zealand someday."

But until everyone's favorite bow-tied scientist can set off on his dream journeys around the world, he's optimistic and encourages everyone to "stay the course" when it comes to navigating life in the pandemic.

"We're going to sort this out, and it's all going to be science," he said. "Get vaccinated as soon as you can, wash your hands, and wear a mask."

Mother's Day is right around the corner, which means it's time to book an amazing brunch for your mom.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in spring and summer plans. However, according to OpenTable, restaurants around the U.S. are slowly starting to return. In honor of this, OpenTable is launching a new campaign for Mother's Day, as it may be the first holiday that many diners are reuniting with their families. The company partnered with photographer and TikTok star Alex Stemplewski for its Frame the Feeling initiative, which brings together 14 iconic restaurants in 14 cities nationwide to offer complimentary professional photographs at those establishments this Mother's Day.

In addition, the company has released its annual list of 100 best brunch restaurants, so you can plan the perfect celebration. The list includes restaurants across 24 states and Washington, D.C., and is based on over 12 million verified diner reviews of over 30,000 restaurants around the country. Blessed by Dionysus himself, wine has been an essential part of human celebration, indulgence, and cuisine for eons.

When it comes to this libation, your first thought might be the French countryside, the valleys of California, or even the hills of South America. But Africa should be on the radar of every wine connoisseur, too. The northern parts of the continent have produced wine since the Phoenician times, while the south has created its own vintages since the 16th century. And other parts of the continent have awoken to the magic of winemaking in the last three decades.

Here are five wine destinations in Africa that ever vino lover should visit.

Cape Winelands, South Africa

With over 500 wineries, South Africa is one of the top wine-producing destinations in not only Africa, but also the entire world. Vino lovers are spoiled for choice here.

If you're looking to experience a good range of South African wine, the Cape Winelands region in the Western Cape is your best bet. The municipality comprises Stellenbosch, Paarl, Worcester, and Franschhoek, where you'll find some of the country's most notable wineries.

If you've got time and a sense of adventure, you're in for a real treat. You can map out your itinerary based on drink preference (red, sparkling, rose, or blend) or accommodations (think: traditional wine farm or expansive luxury estate).

The possibilities are endless, but make sure to try pinotage, a hybrid between a pinot noir and cinsaut. Also worthy of note is the Methode Cap Classique (MCC), a South African sparkling wine produced with the traditional Champagne method.

Meknes, Morocco

This North African nation has a history of wine production dating back to ancient Phoenician times, according to historians. When Islam was introduced to the nation around 680 CE, wine production dwindled and eventually came to a halt. It wasn't until the 1900s, when the nation became a French colony, that the culture of winemaking returned. However, much of the wine produced was exported to France and other parts of Europe.

Following independence, wine production once again stalled, due to a lack of funding and expertise. In the last two decades, the country has seen intervention from the government and backing from foreign investors, and the industry may well be on its way back to being on the viticulture map.

With a climate characterized by dry summers and wet winters, vineyards thrive here, growing cinsaut, merlot, and alicante, along with smaller yields of chenin blanc and chardonnay.

Founded in the 11th century, Meknes is one of Morocco's imperial cities, filled with monuments, ancient ruins, and architecture. It's also home to two of the country's renowned wineries: Château Roslane and Domaine de la Zouina (one of the country's oldest).

Most of the wine produced here is red, rose, or gris (definitely try the latter). However, Domaine de la Zouina produces batches of chardonnay and a few blended bottles.

Ziway, Ethiopia

Already famed for its tea and coffee, the Rift Valley climate in Ethiopia provides the perfect temperatures and rich sandy loam for cultivating and harvesting vineyards.

The first vines were planted in the 1930s by Italian occupiers, and the country's oldest winery has operated since 1936. While it's no powerhouse (yet), it produces over 10 million bottles a year.

Right outside the capital city of Addis Ababa, Castel Winery in the small town of Ziway is working to put the country on the global wine radar. At the heart of the operation is social responsibility, ensuring that all hands at the winery are fairly compensated and upskilled.

The range of vineyards is ambitious, growing varietals of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah, chardonnay, chenin, cabernet franc, and semillon, to name a few. So far, they've successfully bottled chardonnay, merlot, syrah, cabaret sauvignon, and even sweet rose. Tip: Be sure to try traditional Ethiopian honey wine, tej.

Naivasha, Kenya

Another East African nation flying under the wine radar is Kenya. With high altitudes and the Rift Valley's climate, the country has seen the emergence of local wineries in the last few decades.

Leleshwa winery in Naivasha is a top spot. With its hot days and cool nights, coupled with its high elevation and rich volcanic soil, the town provides prime real estate for vineyards. Leleshwa cultivates a number of varietals, including shiraz, chenin blanc, and cabernet sauvignon, but it's the sauvignon blanc that has garnered applause from critics.

Winery tours include Kenyan tea, spectacular views, three-course meals, and of course, wine tasting.

Omaruru, Namibia

With its hot, arid climate, Namibia is likely not the first place that comes to mind when thinking of wine production.

Despite the irrigation challenges and youth of the vintages produced here (as late as 2014 and 2015), the country still produces a decent amount of chardonnay, shiraz, and chenin blanc, along with small quantities of rose and red wine blends.

Two wineries operate in this region: Kristall Kellerei (the country's oldest) and the Erongo Mountain Winery. Both are situated along the Omaruru River, offering a change of scenery from the country's hot weather.

Kristall Kellerei now grows mourvèdre, shiraz, and barbera, in addition to the existing varietals of colombard and tinta barroca.

At Erongo Mountain Winery, blends are their speciality. One of their most notable bottles is Ohamba, which is a blend of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, and cabernet franc.

Tavern on the Green, the iconic restaurant located in the middle of New York City's Central Park, is ready to welcome you once again.

The restaurant officially announced its reopening date for Thursday, April 29, 2021, which it says will come with a "reimagined" dining scene.

"To say that we are excited to open our doors again is an understatement," Jim Caiola, co-owner of Tavern on the Green, shared in a statement. "Tavern is more than just a restaurant, it is a place for New Yorkers to unwind, relax in the heart of Central Park, and feel some kind of normalcy again. The past year has tested our industry, and we have come back more resilient and innovative than ever. It has been powerful to see how restaurants have adapted and we so look forward to bringing back such a special offering, whether our guests are coming in for dinner in the iconic Central Park Room, or grabbing a cheese plate and cocktails to enjoy in the park."

More than one year after shuttering its doors due to COVID-19, the restaurant will reopen its indoor dining rooms at 50% capacity, as well as the restaurant's outdoor dining spaces, including its Main Courtyard located across from Central Park's Sheep's Meadow, its Beer Garden located at the front of the restaurant, and its South Terrace.

With either indoor or outdoor dining, guests can dig in to chef Bill Peet's meals. According to the restaurant, Peet plans to debut a new menu for the spring season, but don't worry, the Tavern Burger and its Birthday Cake are still on the menu.

Tavern on the Green will also re-open its "To-Go" window and include dishes like veggie frittata, a jumbo shrimp and guacamole wrap, a cheese and charcuterie plate for park snacking, and a full drink menu. Guests can order ahead online and experience contact-free pick-up at the window.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner Monday to Friday and open for brunch, lunch, and dinner on weekends. Make reservations and see the full menu here.

Guy Fieri on How to Make a Next-level Grilled Cheese Sandwich and the State of America's Food Scene https://travelbaseonline.com/family-holidays/guy-fieri-on-how-to-make-a-next-level-grilled-cheese-sandwich-and-the-state-of-americas-food-scene/ Mon, 12 Apr 2021 18:48:22 +0000 https://travelbaseonline.com/?p=76930 Crunchy. Crunchy. Cheesy. Creamy. Savory. These are all words you could use to describe one of the best and most comforting sandwiches on the planet: the grilled cheese.

Lots of people have opinions on what makes the best grilled cheese — whether it's the types of cheese (or cheese blends) to use, using butter or mayo for the skillet, or what type of bread to use. And in honor of National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12), Guy Fieri has teamed up with King's Hawaiian to bring you a mac-and-cheese grilled cheese that truly brings your favorite sandwich to the next level.

If you're not already familiar with King's Hawaiian bread, let's just say that you're missing out on some truly delicious carbs. King's Hawaiian is a Hawaiian sweet bread, meaning that it's soft and fluffy with a slightly sweet taste. In terms of texture, it's a little like a brioche but it comes in all kinds of varieties, including dinner rolls and sliced bread.

Naturally, it's a great choice for grilled cheese.

Luckily, Fieri has the perfect (and simple) recipe, which can be found on the King's Hawaiian website, that involves two pieces of provolone and a healthy scoop of mac and cheese for a creamy mix of cheesy goodness. The mac and cheese is a basic cheese sauce (also in the sandwich recipe) and cooked macaroni that anyone can easily recreate. In a live sandwich making demonstration with T+L, Fieri added some pre-cooked sausage, sandwiched it all between two pieces of King's Hawaiian sliced bread, and cooked it in a campfire pie iron (or sandwich press). A panini press or cast iron skillet is also perfectly fine to use, too.

"What's the sandwich you remember eating the most as a little kid? Or what's one of the first sandwiches you remember eating? Peanut butter and jelly and grilled cheese," Fieri told Travel + Leisure in a video chat. "I think the grilled cheese is one of those experiences that it was fun to eat, it was cheesy, it was creamy, it was crunchy, it was salty, it had, if you were using really good bread like the King's Hawaiian, it had great texture."

Fieri added that it goes great with a tomato soup or ketchup (as he ate it when he was a kid), and it's customizable to suit whatever your tastes are, be it with cheese alone, sausage, ham, or even something creative like tikka masala. Truly, one of the quintessential comfort foods out there.

With all this talk about sandwiches, T+L had to ask the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives host/chef/restaurateur where to find the best, under-the-radar places across the country to get some delicious food. But unsurprisingly, Fieri had a more all-encompassing view of American food culture today.

"I wish I could tell you that I have found the hidden gem. What I really have to tell you is the food scene in America has exploded to a level that I didn't know was coming," Fieri said in the interview, explaining that types of food (like good Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex, or good lobsters and clam chowder) used to be very regional –– but today, that's not really the case. "The food world has exploded [and] people become so much more educated."

So, how do you find the best food places in a new destination? According to Fieri, who has become a veritable champion of small, local restaurants, you should go off the beaten path.

"What you should do when you roll into a town is not just go down the main street of the town and say, 'Oh, these are the restaurants I want to eat at.' Go two streets over, and you'll find some little mom and pop shacks that are doing some food that'll blow your mind," he said, emphasizing that "every little town and area" has its own food scene and little, local places that residents absolutely love more than chains.

"People aren't putting up with pre-processed, people aren't putting up with microwaved. People are saying, 'I want the real deal'," Fieri said.

Furthermore, choosing a favorite place or food can be almost impossible if you're a foodie and can often depend on where you are and what you had last.

"When you go to a concert, and you're standing there or you're sitting there, and they play your favorite song, or you're with really good friends and you're having a couple drinks and you're hanging out. You're there in the moment and you're like, 'Ah, this is it. This is like the best time ever'," Fieri said. "And then you have that same experience two or three months later."

He could, however, pinpoint his favorite style of sandwich (besides a grilled cheese, of course), and it is tied to one of the best, classic food cities in America: Chicago. "Hot Italian beef," he said. "[It's] basically like a French Dip, but with hot peppers on them, hot Italian peppers on them. My gosh, my mouth is going –– I want one right now. And everybody in Chicago has their style of how they do it. They're all similar but they have uniquenesses about them. The hot Italian beef is kind of like the Philly Cheesesteak is to Philly, [but] in Chicago."

Fieri has been in the news quite a bit recently, mainly due to his role in helping to support restaurant workers during the pandemic, and perhaps in a more tongue-in-cheek way, because of a petition that went around last June that proposed renaming Columbus, Ohio (Fieri's hometown) as Flavortown in an effort to distance the city from its namesake's problematic history.

On that note, Fieri was both amused and humbled by the petition. "I thought it was very neat. Very interesting. I think that there's, of course, so many other people and so many other pieces of history that would more rightly deserve that honor than me," he said. "The residents of Flavortown are a powerful, powerful group, and I appreciate getting nominated as the 'mayor' of such a group…When they start firing themselves up that they think they should name after it –– I say, thank you, but it's much more deserving to go to somebody else."

National Grilled Cheese Day is the perfect time to learn a new recipe and do a little celebrating, especially after a year at home. "We've got a lot of celebrating to do. We've had a real tough year. And we're starting to open up and the weather's getting better, fortunately," Fieri said. "These King's Hawaiian folks, they have no boundary of having a good time and having fun. So, here's a great way to start it."

More information and recipes from Fieri himself can be found on the King's Hawaiian website.
