Coronation events are planned aboard Princess U.K. sailings

Princess Cruises will feature a series of special events, parties and foods on its U.K.-based Sky Princess and Regal Princess to celebrate the crowning of King Charles III next month.

Roundtrip sailings out of Southampton, England, that week will feature live coverage on May 6 of the broadcast of both the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey and the coronation concert from Windsor Castle on the ships’ 300-square-foot Movies Under the Stars jumbotron.

The Sky Princess will be sailing a seven-day Spain and France itinerary, while the Regal Princess will be on an eight-day Ireland and Scotland voyage.

On coronation day, the ships will replicate the street parties that will be taking place across the U.K. on their top decks, setting out tables with food and tea and hanging decorations and bunting.

A Royal Afternoon Tea will be served, with British snacks such as Victoria sponge cake; Pimms and strawberries will be served on the top deck, and other British favorites such as fish and chips, sausage rolls and trifle will be available in the World Fresh Marketplace.

Grant Harrold, former butler to the king, will give talks on each ship. He will be onboard the Regal Princess from May 3 to 5 and on the Sky Princess from May 6 to 13. As a former British Royal Household member, he is a leading etiquette expert, royal commentator and broadcaster.

Guests are encouraged to wear royal red, white and blue colors for a special dress-up night. The Piazza on both ships will be decorated for the coronation with banners and bunting in the royal colors.

The Regal Princess will call at Holyhead in Wales on May 6, enabling guests to experience the historical moment in an area of the U.K. that has strong ties to the king, who served as prince of Wales for more than 60 years.

The Sky Princess will host a special “Royal Variety Show,” featuring a tribute to Elton John, as well as Royal Trivia.
