Cruise lines all have their own unique vibe. On some cruise ships, passengers might be required to follow a dress code to enter some restaurants.
Passengers have reported seeing some strange behaviour on cruise ships when it comes to clothing.
On one ship, a guest said they had seen another guest come to the ship’s restaurant wearing pyjamas.
But what should cruise guests wear on a ship?
A travel expert at Travel Lens told Express.co.uk: “It’s worth planning your dinner outfits in advance and checking if the ship has a set dress code.
“If not, we’d recommend men wear a shirt with trousers or a pair of smart chino-like shorts and avoid trainers.
“Some restaurants often ask guests not to wear vests and casual t-shirts, so it’s worth checking beforehand.
“For women, knee-to-floor length dresses and skirts are a favourable choice, accompanied by smart footwear, so avoid flip-flops and sandals, but it’s important to remain comfy, so don’t feel like you need to wear high heels, as flat shoes will be fine.”
Some cruise restaurants may ban guests from wearing flip-flops and sandals and passengers may need to have smarter shoes.
Many of a ship’s smartest dining areas will ask passengers not to wear casual clothing such as vests.
Some ships also have a rule about passengers walking around in swimwear and only allow bathing suits by the pool.
A ship should provide passengers with a set of rules, including a dress code, when they board.
However, dress codes will vary between cruise lines and some ships opt for a more casual vibe.
Paul Melinis, managing director of luxury river cruise line APT, told Express.co.uk: “Cruise ships tend to offer a range of dining options, from the casual to the more formal, so we would generally advise guests to look at the specifications for the ships they’re travelling on and to pack accordingly,
“Smarter restaurants will require closed shoes, trousers and collared shirts for men, and dresses or trousers for women.
“Being Australian-owned, our more formal dining options on the APT river fleet tend to be more casual than some of the restaurants that can be found on ocean cruises.
“We like to remind our customers that they are on holiday so being comfortable and relaxed is the most important thing.”
Cruise guests may also want to bring a pair of trainers if they are planning on taking part in excursions.
Many cruise excursions involve a lot of walking or physical activity so guests will need comfortable shoes.
Guests will also need to plan ahead if they want to take part in snorkelling or another sport while they’re away.
Some cruise ships even have their own zipline and passengers will need to bring leggings or trousers to ride it.
