Disney Extends Cruise Suspension Through March

Disney Cruise Line has further delayed its suspension of sailings into the spring of this year.

Cruises aboard its four ships, the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy, are now delayed until the end of March, the company announced this week.

The suspension also applies to cruises that are longer than seven nights.

"We are carefully preparing for a return to service following the guidelines issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)," the announcement read.

Passengers who had reserved spots on a canceled cruise will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed. They can either opt for a full refund or a cruise credit to be used within 15 months of the canceled sailing. Those who booked through a travel agent should contact them directly and guests who booked through Disney can call (866) 325-6685 or (407) 566-7797 if they still have questions after receiving their email.

When it comes to Disney Parks, Walt Disney World in Orlando is open and operating with new COVID-19 procedures, like temperature checks and social distancing. Disneyland in California remains closed to visitors but recently announced that it would become a super-sized COVID-19 vaccination site. Disneyland Paris is scheduled to remain closed through mid-February. Shanghai Disneyland reopened to the public in May and has remained open ever since.

Over the summer, Disney CEO Bob Chapek predicted that the cruise line, "will probably be the last of our travel-oriented businesses to come back online," in an earnings call, according to USA Today.

Other cruise lines have canceled their itineraries for early 2021, as well.

All U.S. operations for Carnival Co. cruise lines are paused until at least March 31. Holland America cruises are on hold until April 30 and Princess Cruises has extended its cruise pause through May 14.
