Choosing a cruise cabin can be a challenge. From penthouse suites to interior cabins, it can be hard to select the right room.

Luckily, a cruise expert has shared his top tips to securing the best room for a cruise holiday. Britons might have to move fast to get their ideal cabin as bookings are currently soaring.

Dave Mills, chief commercial officer of Iglu Cruise, shared his top tips to choosing the best cabin on the ship.

He said: “Do some cabin research. It’s no secret that some cruise ships are huge, and where your cabin is located on the ship is crucial.

“Bigger cruise ships often have everything from theatres, bars, restaurants and even nightclubs. Some people want to be close to the action, whereas others may want a quieter stay.”

Experienced cruise guests recommend booking a cabin on a floor between other rooms for the most peaceful stay. Rooms beneath the pool deck are often disturbed early in the morning as crew put out the deck furniture.

Dave added: “You’re going to want to look at the deck plan and book a cabin that’s right for you.

“An inside cabin is almost always cheaper, so this is a great option for those who are looking to save money or don’t plan to spend a lot of time in their room, whereas others will want an oceanview suite.”

Interior cabins are nearly always the cheapest option but some guests do find the rooms claustrophobic.

The cabins can also get a little smelly as guests won’t be able to air them by opening a window. Luckily, there are a few cheap products that can help keep the room smelling fresh.

Dave added: “Have a browse for the type of cabin you’d like and if you aren’t sure which cabin is right for you, an expert agent will be able to help you choose the best cabin at the best value.”

Guests can also try to get an upgrade for a bargain if a cruise line hasn’t sold out all its rooms.

Some passengers like to book a room near the ship’s buffet. A guest was recently slammed for breaking buffet etiquette.
