Lufthansa will operate up to three flights per week between Newark and Malta during the second half of this summer exclusively for Viking cruise customers.
The first flight will launch on July 30, with flights continuing through Oct. 14.
The Lufthansa-Viking partnership will serve customers of Viking’s three Malta-based cruise ships.
The Viking Star will sail 11-day itineraries, launching from the Maltese capital of Valletta and then visiting Italy and Spain.

The Viking Venus and the Viking Sea will offer two different 11-day itineraries. The Malta & Adriatic Jewels itinerary will visit Montenegro and Croatia. The Malta & Greek Isles Discovery will call in five Greek ports.
Lufthansa will operate the Newark-Malta flights on Airbus A350-900 aircraft, featuring business, premium economy and economy cabins. Viking customers originating outside the New York metroplex can connect to the flights via Lufthansa’s Star Alliance partner United.
Malta reopened to travelers from 40 U.S. states on Wednesday, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Travelers can enter the country with proof of a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of departure.
The Newark-Malta service will operate under flight number LH489 from Newark and LH488 on return.
