P&O Cruises has reported an “unprecedented” number of bookings for P&O Cruises coastal cruises, in the latest cruise news. The UK sailings went on sale yesterday morning and attracted an “overwhelming” number of bookings. The three, four and seven-night cruises will take place on flagship Britannia and new ship Iona.
They will set sail from Southampton between June and September and are billed as “the ultimate British break.”
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “It is very demonstrable evidence that a holiday at sea, with all that it has to offer, is a popular and much longed-for option this summer.
“We always hoped that these domestic cruises would be popular, given the uncertainty around holidays abroad, but we have never before seen such significant and immediate demand and it certainly shows the effects of lockdown and everyone’s need for a holiday.
“Many thousands of guests have already made bookings and Iona’s maiden voyage to the Scottish islands is already very well sold and will be a very special cruise.”
Ludlow continued: “Where else but by sailing with us on Iona can you taste Spanish speciality tapas from Jose Pizarro, fine wines chosen by Olly Smith, Marco Pierre White’s beef Wellington and award-winning Snowflake gelato?
“And that’s before you choose from a new movie release in the boutique cinema or catch a how in SkyDome or a music set in the 710 Club.
“There’s certainly no other domestic holiday this year which can compete.
“We have spent so long working towards this point and we all just can’t wait to see our ships sailing once again, it’s been a very long year.”
However, not all Britons will be able to join these sailings.
P&O has adopted a strict stance when it comes to the Covid vaccine and only those who have has the jab will be allowed to cruise.
“Given the advanced progress of the UK vaccination programme and strong expressed preference on the part of our guests, these sailings on Britannia and Iona will be for UK resident, COVID-19 vaccinated guests only,” detailed the cruise company.
All other P&O Cruises holidays currently on sale do not require guests to be vaccinated.
Requirements for holidaymakers do not stop there.
Travel insurance is also obligatory.
“As part of our health and wellbeing protocols it is mandatory for all UK guests to have suitable travel insurance cover in order to cruise with us,” said P&O.
Measures will also be in place onboard to ensure safety.
“All guests and crew will be required to follow enhanced health and wellbeing measures to protect everyone on board.
“These have been developed with guidance from our global medical and public health experts and scientists, and in close coordination with UK Government agencies.”
Under the current roadmap, foreign and domestic holidays are set to resume from May 17.
However, further details on this will be announced on April 12.
