Boasting lumberjacks, pig racing, sheep dog demonstrations, fireworks, a rodeo, show jumping and carnival rides, the Camden Show will offer an authentic country experience on the outskirts of Sydney, on March 16-17, 2018.
Held in the showgrounds of historic Camden, the show is now in its 132nd year and is one of the biggest events in the Macarthur region, attracting more than 40,000 visitors each year. The community-run event aims to promote excellence in agriculture through competitions, exhibitions and entertainment in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Hundreds of farm animals – alpacas, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, horses, cattle – will be on show, with many performing throughout the program. Craft, produce, baking, photography and art created by those in the region will be on display, and children can enjoy rides, amusements, showbags and an interactive tent – focused on growing their own food, recycling and protecting the environment. Laser skirmish is expected to be popular with teenagers, while whip-cracking competitions, pig races, the search for the best scarecrow and a ute competition are among the quirkier events.
Highlights of the show include a motorcycle and bicycle freestyle show, and the lumberjacks, travelling all the way from Canada to race each other as they climb 15m-high poles and chop as quickly as they can. Friday night’s schedule will feature a new, action-packed rodeo from 7pm, while Saturday will feature an exhilarating show from a precision-driving team, and finish with a fireworks display.
The Camden Show will be open from 8am to 11pm each day. Admission costs $25 for adults, $15 for children aged 6-15, or $60 for families (two adults and two children). Children under six are free.
