Council pays tribute to community volunteers
Council has paid tribute to over 2000 volunteers at its annual Gift of Time ceremony held this week.
The volunteers of 60 local groups, who dedicated more than 366,000 hours of their time to the community this year, were recognised at the annual Gift of Time Awards ceremony on Wednesday 19 December.
“I am humbled by the selflessness and dedication of the diverse group who give up their time to help others,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“The annual Gift of Time Awards ceremony celebrates the valuable contribution of volunteer groups and individuals to our community,” Cr Brticevic said.
“Our volunteers are incredible people who help to support the lives of residents through their involvement in so many aspects of our community,” he said.
“Volunteering enriches the lives and enhances the wellbeing of everyone involved and ultimately creates a stronger community.”
This year, the ceremony recognised volunteers who gave their time in many different ways – from the Blue Ladies supporting hospital patients to those advocating on behalf of war veterans and their families, Meals on Wheels and the dedicated members of local Lions and Rotary clubs.
Volunteers also support Council to maintain its high standard of service through organisations including bushcare groups, youth networks and the library’s family history service.
