Southwest Airlines celebrated its fifth year of service in the Hawaiian Islands by dedicating one of its planes with a new name, Imua One, and new livery based on Hawaiian cultural values.

“When we dedicate an airplane, it’s not only a symbol of gratitude, but also of a promise we’ve made,” said Bob Jordan, CEO of Southwest Airlines, in a press release. “Hawaii welcomed Southwest with warm aloha, and we approached serving the people of Hawaii with an earnest desire to connect them with important moments, places and the people who matter most in their lives. We’re grown since our first arrival on the Islands four years ago, to 90 departures a day, thanks to the support of Island communities.”

Then plane took 17 days to paint, and the livery uses 16 colors. The design honors the Hawaiian cultural values of family, land, ocean, unity and imua, which means “to go forth with strength.”
