After a one-year hiatus, the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association will return in person for its 40th Caribbean Travel Marketplace event.
The event is set for Oct. 3 to 5 in San Juan, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
The conference was last held in person in Nassau in late January 2020, two months before Covid shut down borders and travel. The 2021 version last May was virtual.
“The pandemic has resulted in significant pent-up desire for fellowship with regional colleagues and business connections from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and elsewhere,” said Nicola Madden-Greig, president of the CHTA.
“The need to cement current partnerships and create new ones is critical,” she said.
Puerto Rico as the host destination for Marketplace 2022 will welcome suppliers, traditional and new buyers as well as travel advisors from around the world. Beyond the convention center itself, there will be opportunities to view hotel and resort upgrades, meeting facilities, the culinary and entertainment scene and island attractions.
The CHTA is also marking its 60th anniversary this year and will have some Marketplace events geared to celebrations of that milestone, according to Vanessa Ledesma, the CHTA’s acting CEO and director general.
Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, views Marketplace “as an incredible opportunity to showcase all our island has to offer as we look to an exciting future for our industry.”
