If you have a New Year's resolution to eat more green, this might be the best excuse to break it.
Shake Shack announced two new menu items that have officially hit stores nationwide: a tasty Korean-style fried chicken sandwich and chicken bites.
"Inspired by our teams' work and travels in South Korea and the incredible food scene there, this limited-time chicken sandwich features a spicy-sweet gochujang-glazed crispy chicken breast over our white kimchi slaw and toasted sesame seeds," it says in a statement.
Shake Shack collaborated with Choi's Kimchi Co. in Portland, Oregon to create the slaw made with salted and fermented Napa cabbage, daikon radish, and green onion, which perfectly complements the tangy sauce. As always, the restaurant used fresh, antibiotic-free white meat.
To go with the new chicken sandwich, the fast food chain is also serving their iconic crinkle fries (and their chicken bites) with a Gochujang mayo. Gochujang itself is a sauce that is used a lot in Koren cuisine and lends a spicy, sweet, and umami flavor to many dishes.
And because it's not Shake Shack without a shake, the restaurant is offering a new concoction called the Black Sugar Vanilla Shake. Black sugar is a darker, more molasses-like sugar that tastes a little like a rich, smoky caramel. Frankly, if you're going to consume fast food, it might as well be delicious, totally "worth it" fast food.
Unfortunately, these items will only be around for a limited time, and it is not known when they'll be leaving the menu. So if you're a big Korean fried chicken fan, it's best to order soon. More information about the new items and ordering from your local restaurant can be found on the Shake Shack website.
But, like the classic McRib and Shake Shack's own corn dog, it's always possible that these items will make a comeback in the future.
