Travel expert Mark Murphy is back again for an all-new episode of the TravelPulse Podcast.
Episode 10 comes to you from the luxe and all-inclusive Live Aqua Boutique Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
“Come down to Mexico and experience it for yourself because Mexico is safe. By talking to real travelers on the ground and getting their real perspective, I think you’ll find that you’ll be very comfortable coming and staying here,” says Murphy. “The tourist areas are fantastic and safe. If you don’t believe me, you can check out the State Department website.”
This week, Murphy reaches a resolution with Sixt rent a car, calls out the social media loser of the week, talks crying babies on airplanes and a whole lot more.

Later, Murphy explains why cruise virgins should consider booking a sailing during the Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) #ChooseCruise Month this October.
“My suggestion is to do a very short cruise that hits the Bahamas. Two or three nights, four nights max. Experiment. Book it far enough out and fly in the day before your cruise departs, that’s a little travel tip,” he added.
The travel expert also dives into recent studies regarding airline passenger preferences and selfie-related deaths before breaking down how hotel rates are priced.
“They use what’s called yield management at hotels. Airlines have been doing it for years. If they’re at 50 percent occupancy, they’re dropping those rates to stimulate demand,” said Murphy. “As the occupancy level increases the prices keep ticking up. It’s all done with algorithms. It’s all automated for the most part with most hotels these days.”
