American Airlines will begin flying to the new airport in Tulum, Mexico, on March 28, offering three routes.
The carrier will fly twice daily from its Dallas/Fort Worth home base and daily from its hubs in Charlotte and Miami. Tickets go on sale Nov. 13.

American is the third U.S. carrier to announce that it will begin operations to Tulum in late March. The destination is located on the Riviera Maya, approximately 90 miles south of Cancun, and is known for its beaches and Mayan ruins.
Spirit plans to fly there daily from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, and Delta will service Tulum from Atlanta.
The airport opens Dec. 1.
Tulum service will be part of a beefed-up schedule for American to the Caribbean. Mexico and Central America next summer. The airline will also increase frequencies on 11 total routes to the region from Miami, Charlotte and Dallas, beginning June 5.
