Lufthansa has canceled 800 flights scheduled for Friday at its Munich and Frankfurt hubs due to a one-day strike by pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit.
Affected customers will be informed Thursday and rebooked if possible, the carrier said. The cancellations don’t extend to Eurowings flights.
Lufthansa estimates that 130,000 customers will be impacted by the day-long labor action.
“Lufthansa is working with joint forces to return its flight operations to a normal status as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, the effects of the strike may still lead to individual flight cancellations or delays this Saturday and Sunday,” the carrier said.

Lufthansa says it has offered entry-level pilots an 18% pay raise and longstanding captains a 5% increase. The pilots union said Lufthansa management failed to move the needle on its offer during negotiations Tuesday.
“In order to avert labor disputes, Lufthansa must present a significantly improved offer,” said Marcel Gröls, Vereinigung’s chairman of collective bargaining policy. “We’re too far apart at the moment.”
