Salt Lake City was the most punctual U.S. airport in 2022, says OAG

Flyers using Salt Lake City Airport might have wondered what all the commotion was about last year when the headlines raged with stories about airline service implosions.

That’s because the Utah airport enjoyed the highest on-time performance in 2022 among North America airports with at least 2.5 million departing passengers, according to OAG.

For the year, Salt Lake City charted an on-time performance of 83.59% for arriving and departing flights, besting second-place finisher Boise, Idaho, which recorded an 82.92% on-time performance.

The rest of the top 10 were Fresno, Calif.; Spokane, Wash.; Tucson, Ariz.; Lihue, Hawaii; Detroit; Portland, Ore.; Greenville, S.C.; and Minneapolis-St. Paul, which finished in tenth with an on-time performance of 80.36%.

Salt Lake City, Detroit and Minneapolis are all dominated by Delta, which led U.S. airlines in terms of 2022 on-time performance.

No other major airline hub airports made the top 10.

OAG’s 2023 Punctuality League report also ranked the top 20 airports globally in terms of on-time performance.

Japanese airports dominate the list, comprising 10 of the 20 placings. Leading the way was Osaka, where a combined 91.45% of arriving and departing flights were on time.

No U.S. airport made the global top 20.
