Sick of the rainy British weather? Luckily, there’s still plenty of budget September breaks on offer for Britons in need of a sunny getaway.

Tourists who aren’t tied to going away during the school holidays could find September is a far better time to holiday than August.

In September, British tourists will find many destinations in southern Europe that still have warm weather but cheaper prices and fewer crowds.

Crowded tourist attractions have caught headlines this summer with Buckingham Palace, Edinburgh Castle, Versailles Palace and Barcelona’s Las Ramblas among the worst.

The expert team at Iglu Cruise have found five destinations where Britons can soak up the sun at an affordable price this September.

A spokesperson said: “With beautiful beaches, excellent shopping and delicious food, all at affordable prices, Turkey is a fantastic destination for a last-minute getaway. With September temperatures in the mid to high 20s, the climate is warm enough to swim in the sea, lay by the pool or explore the beautiful Turkish landscape. The resorts are usually a lot less crowded too.

“Kuşadasi is close to the Ancient City of Ephesus, perfect for those who like combining their beach holidays with some culture and history. If you’re looking for beautiful beaches, the Datça peninsula offers some of the most stunning coastlines in the country.”

Turkey sees high temperatures of 25 degrees in September and there’s 12 hours of daylight on average.

Temperatures have cooled by September making it the perfect time to explore Athens’ highlights such as the Acropolis. If it’s beaches on the agenda, Crete is a fantastic option and the southern island usually has the country’s warmest weather.

Santorini is on many tourists’ bucket lists but the island tends to get extremely crowded during summer. Numbers tend to dwindle in September so it could be the perfect time to get that sunset shot.

Canary Islands

Spain is the UK’s top tourist destination and the Canary Islands are the ideal winter hotspot. The islands enjoy temperatures in the 20s all throughout September and a glass of wine usually comes in at under five euros (£4.28).

An Iglu Cruise spokesperson said: “Known for its beautiful architecture, scenic cliffs, and breathtaking coastline, Malta is a destination everyone should visit once in their lifetime. With temperatures hitting the mid to high twenties, September is a wonderful time to explore this beautiful country.”

Malta is easy to get around and tourists should be able to explore most of the island’s main attractions from the country’s capital, Valletta.

Cyprus has some of Europe’s most incredible beaches while party-loving Britons might prefer a late break in Ayia Napa.

Top attractions in Cyprus include the archaeological site of Nea Paphos or the Bellapais Monastery. Temperatures can soar as high as 24 degrees in September.
