Over 330,000 British tourists travelled to Turkey for a holiday in the first 11 months of 2021. Turkey had a difficult year as it remained on the UK’s travel red list until September 23.
However, many Britons visited Turkey after the UK’s restrictions were lifted to enjoy a break in the winter sun.
It has now been named one of the top 10 most popular destinations for 2022 by The Travel Association, ABTA.
The Turkish Tourism Board in the UK said: “2022 is set to be a year of strong recovery for Turkey in the UK market.
“The feedback we are receiving from our UK tour operator partners highlights strong levels of forward bookings for summer 2022, supported by an increased number of flights between the UK and Turkey this year.”
In 2022, 17 UK airports will offer flights to popular Turkish destinations including Bodrum and Dalaman.
The Tourism Board added: “British visitors can be assured of a warm and safewelcome to Turkey, with the expansion of our world-leading Safe Tourism Certification Programme this year, and a high level of vaccination amongst the Turkish population.”
Over 80 percent of Turkish residents have been fully vaccinated and the country’s programme regularly inspects hotels for safety.
Many of Turkey’s beach resorts are top British destinations for summer as well as winter sun holidays.
Marmaris is one of the most popular Turkish hotspots. Although the town has a population of just 30,000 residents, during summer it regularly gets 250,000 visitors.
The resort offers British tourists a lively nightlife scene with open-air clubs and many live music venues.
Marmaris is a family friendly destination and children can learn to sail on the resort’s clear waters.
Another popular spot, Olu Deniz is famed as the home of Turkey’s Blue Lagoon which has some of the brightest blue water in the country.
Families can enjoy one of the region’s water parks while couples will find many romantic restaurants.
British tourists looking for a city break could opt for an exciting break in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
The Atatürk Culture Centre in Istanbul is set to host a full program of cultural events in 2022.
A foodie paradise, tourists in Istanbul will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out.
British tourists travelling to Turkey must have proof of being fully vaccinated or a negative Covid test.
They can also provide proof of recent recovery from Covid to enter Turkey while children under 12 are exempt.
Mask wearing is mandatory in Turkey including in restaurants, bars and shops.
British tourists will need to take a lateral flow test on or before two day after arriving back in the UK from Turkey.
