Holidays are a great way to relax and unwind. But, with money worries plaguing many Brits a trip abroad hasn’t been the priority for many this year. After all, a few hundred quid per person is no small cost, especially if you've got kids.
Luckily, those who are still craving some sun, sand and sea could be in with a chance of bagging a holiday for as little as a penny – and usually they go for less than £30 for the whole family.

By popular demand, Jet2holidays has brought back its 'Bid for a Break' campaign. Returning to its app in September, the competition lets you bid a price for a holiday on every weekday and weekend throughout the month.
The competition works in a unique way. All you have to do is enter a price you’re willing to pay and if it is the lowest unique bid you’ve bagged the holiday!
So, if you bid a single penny and nobody else enters that amount then you’ve bagged a trip for you and your family. The UK’s largest tour operator has a total of 30 holidays available throughout the month, as a new holiday will be auctioned off every weekday from Monday to Friday and one over every weekend.
That’s more than ever before, as it used to be a once a week competition. Over 60 holidaymakers have successfully ‘Bid on a Break’ since it first launched in 2021.
These include holidays to the Canary Islands, Greece, Cyprus, Spain, the Algarve, and Turkey over the last three years. One even managed to win with a bid of 2p.
Joanna Liburd submitted a bid for £1.40 on a whim as her son was celebrating his 14th birthday and she won a holiday to The Royal Apollonia in Cyprus for seven nights with flights included.
At the time she said: "I can’t wait for our holiday to Cyprus. I’m even more excited knowing I secured it for just £1.40! We had just come back from our holiday with Jet2holidays to Gran Canaria and fancied a bit more sunshine, so I decided to enter. My choice of bid was centred around my son who has recently turned 14, I can’t believe it paid off – we’re so excited for our trip to Cyprus."
Meanwhile Zoe Clark, from Benfleet, England, bagged herself a trip to Ibiza on a cheap trip for just 24p, for two adults and two children.
When the campaign relaunches in September, the first holiday to bid on will be a seven-night holiday for two adults and two children to the Aska Lara Resort & Spa in Antalya. This will be followed by holidays to the Costa Blanca, Crete (Chania), Prague, Majorca and the Algarve, as well as many more.
Bidding opens daily at one minute past midnight Monday to Friday and closes at midnight that same day, with Saturday auctions open for an extended 48 hours and closing on a Sunday night.
To bid for a break, all holidaymakers need to do is download the Jet2 mobile app and add in their bid to the nearest pence. If their bid is the lowest, and nobody else has bid that same amount, they will purchase the holiday for the same price as their bid.
On top of this there's also a weekly Indulgent Escape on the app – Four holidays will be available to bid on from Jet2holidays' Indulgent Escapes brand – a prestigious collection of hand-picked five-star hotels.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "Since its launch, our 'Bid for a Break' campaign has been extremely popular with holidaymakers, so we are delighted to announce that it is returning every weekday and weekend throughout September, with 30 holidays up for grabs. The campaign is highly sought-after, and customers will be excited for its bumper return.
"For this reason, we have absolute confidence it will prove to be a big hit once again. We know how much holidaymakers want to get away from the UK and enjoy a well-deserved break, and with some fantastic holidays available to bid on daily, we are offering them the chance to do just that for as little as a few pence.
"We wish everyone the best of luck and look forward to welcoming the successful bidders on holiday." Find out more at jet2holidays.com/bid-for-a-break.
