Cruise guests issued holiday warning to check schedule ‘every morning’

Cruise holidays can be packed with activities. Even if an itinerary includes a lot of sea days, guests could find themselves overwhelmed.

Dave Mills, cruise expert and chief commercial officer at Iglu Cruise, has issued a warning for new passengers.

Dave said: “When you embark on a cruise, you will receive a schedule of what is going on around the ship, including entertainment, activities and timings for port days.

“Have a look at this every morning so you can work out what you want to see to ensure you make the most of your holiday and don’t miss out on the fun.”

Some cruise ships will share the schedule on an app while others may print a daily newsletter which will be left outside passengers’ rooms.

Dave added: “You may be able to find out about any daily offers. For example, some cruise lines will offer a drink of the day at a discounted price, a special offer on dining, or a discounted price on selected spa treatments.”

Unfortunately a lot of extra services aren’t included in the price of a cruise. Guests will usually have to pay for drinks and speciality dining separately.

However, cruise ships often offer deals particularly at quiet times of the day. Guests will have the best chance of nabbing these offers early if they check the daily cruise schedule.

Dave said: “Sometimes a schedule can be found on the cruise line app before you embark, and you may be able to book seats for an event or show on your cruise. It’s therefore a good idea to download the app ahead of your voyage.”

Cruise ship shows are sometimes extremely popular and guests will have to book ahead if they want to secure a seat.

Shows will usually be available to book ahead of time on the ship’s app, giving guests a headstart on other passengers.

Guests may also be able to book cruise ship excursions through the app before they travel, which will ease the pressure of having to book while away.

Cruise ships are usually quietest during port days so if passengers want to enjoy the ship’s pool and other facilities in peace, this is the best time.

Facilities may also be quieter on the first day of the cruise so it’s a good idea to pack a swimming costume in hand luggage to access the pool straight away.
