After being closed since March 14, 2020, the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks finally reopened on April 30, 2021—but only to California residents visiting in groups of no more than three households. The parks have also been operating at a reduced capacity.
Visitors to Disneyland are not required to be vaccinated or tested for COVID-19, but the Disneyland Resort states that California still “strongly recommends” that all guests be fully vaccinated or obtain a negative COVID-19 test prior to entering the parks. All guests are also required to wear a face mask while at the Disneyland Resort.
Not only are the parks reopening to out-of-state guests next month, but on June 15, the Disneyland Resort’s Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen, followed by the reopening of the Disneyland Hotel on July 2. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa reopened on April 29.
The reopening developments coincide with a big addition to the Disneyland parks—the brand-new Avengers Campus, an entire super hero–themed land coming to the Disney California Adventure park on June 4.
In order to obtain tickets to the Disneyland parks, visitors need to have both an entry ticket and a theme park reservation for the same day. Tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance. While Disneyland did not state whether there will still be capacity limits come June 15, the reservation system suggests that the parks will still be limiting or controling the number of people who can enter the parks.
So, what about California’s other popular theme parks? Here’s what we know.
Legoland reopening details
The Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad reopened on April 15 to California state residents and to out-of-state guests who provide proof they have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 no less than 14 days prior to entering the park. Group sizes are currently limited to no more than three households. Legoland has yet to announce whether it will adjust these entry requirements on June 15.
Universal Studios Hollywood reopening details
Universal Studios Hollywood reopened on April 16 to California residents and fully vaccinated out-of-state visitors, which means only out-of-state visitors age 12 and over (children under age 12 are not yet eligible to be vaccinated). Like Legoland and Disneyland, party size is limited to a maximum of three households. Universal Studios Hollywood has not yet announced how or whether it will adjust its entry requirements come June 15.
