Flight attendant Ally shared on her TikTok channel @allycase1 how to conduct a rigorous “hotel safety check” as well as other tips to stay safe in the hotel room while holidaying abroad, “according to a flight attendant”. The crew member started by saying that you should “have the lights on” while inspecting the room and revealed where travellers should always place their suitcase.

Ally recommended “using your suitcase to lean against the door so you’re not locked in the room with a murdered while you are checking”.

When travellers first enter the hotel room it is recommended they place the suitcase by the door to hold it open in case they have to leave quickly after discovering something unexpected.

The flight attendant continued by saying hotel guests should make sure they “check under the bed, the closet, left, right, up and down”.

“Next you want to go into the bathroom, look all the way around there, and make sure nobody is hiding in any other spots.”

Ally advised to “check in the cabinets” as an intruder could also be hiding there and behind the curtains – “tap them and make sure no people are hiding behind them”.

Finally, “you just want to deadbolt your door, lock it and good night!” Another flight attendant named Nassim previously talked to Express.co.uk about hotel room safety and shared a similar hack.

She said: “I would always place my bag by the door. In case someone would open it from the outside so that it would make a noise.”

This is in fact a very effective method that will instantly alert holidaymakers if someone is trying to enter the room.

Nassim explained: “When I started flying I heard of a story where a crew member had gone into their hotel room and not checked it out properly and someone had hidden in the room.

“They got attacked so every time I got to a hotel room I would use my luggage case to keep the hotel door open. I then go inside and check everywhere.

“I would check the bathroom, under the bed, inside the wardrobes, under the table and behind the curtains to make sure that no one was in there. I would never ever enter a room without doing that.”

The flight attendant also admitted that she never gets “in a lift with just one person and press my floor”.

She recommended travellers always make sure no one is following them to their room and if they are feeling unsafe, “wait in the lobby until they have gone”.

“Only then, proceed to go to your room especially if you are on your own.” She revealed that the “Do Not Disturb” sign could also prevent intruders from coming in.

“I would always also put no room service on my door to avoid having anyone come in. I did use the safe as well for my important documents and money. Always, always use that!”

The crew member added that she always leaves “the TV on as well so it seems like I am in the room at all times”.

Another flight attendant named Dani shared on her TikTok channel her “ultimate travel essential”.

The crew member admitted that she “would never travel without my portable lock.” This gadget is “perfect” for solo travellers or when staying in a hotel room that doesn’t have a deadbolt.

She explained: “I stay in hotels roughly three times a week and I can not tell you the amount of times that someone has tried to access my room.

“I sleep so much better and feel so much safer whenever I have this.” Portable locks can be found on Amazon for less than £5.
