Legoland to open brand new theme park in 2027 – and it’s bigger than the UK one

A brand new Legoland theme park is opening in Europe that’s bound to have British families jumping with excitement.

The new Lego themed attraction is to be built in Belgium, near Charleroi Airport, confirmed Merlin Entertainments Group.

The incredible new site is set to be built on a former industrial site and will cost a whopping €400million.

It's thought that it will have on-site hotels like the UK version, and will cover an enormous 70 hectares – that’s about 98 football pitches.

This is much bigger than the UK Windsor park which is 61 hectares.

Families will have to wait a little longer before checking it out for themselves, as the new theme park isn't due to open its doors until 2027.

There are reportedly plans to use another 20 hectares for further development in time.

John Jakobsen, Merlin's COO for Legoland Resorts Group, said: "This is another exciting ‘building block’ laid for bringing a potential Legoland Resort to the many Lego Fans across Wallonia, Benelux and Northern France.

"We will continue to work closely with the Walloon Government and the City of Charleroi and our stakeholder partners at SOGEPA, SFPI and SORESIC to hopefully make this vision an awesome reality.”

The park will be the fourth Legoland theme park in Europe.

Brits can fly to Charleroi Airport in under two hours meaning it’s a great option if your small children aren’t used to longer flights.

Flights next year generally cost less than £100 per person.

But, budget airline Ryanair is currently offering a trip from Liverpool to Charleroi for just £9.99 or from Manchester for £12.99.

So it’s always handy to keep an eye on upcoming deals.
