Meghan loved ‘chic beaches’ on celebrity-favourite island before meeting Harry

The Duchess of Sussex is no stranger to expensive travel. During her pre-royal years, she frequently travelled by private jet to opulent islands and famous cities.

After her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018, she began to join him on royal tours to Australia in 2018 and South Africa in 2019.

As the Duke of Sussex arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday without Meghan, Express.co.uk is taking a look at the former Suits actress’s preferred holiday spots.

Meghan might even go on a summer solo girls’ trip without her husband, or take her daughter Princess Lilibet along.

In her former lifestyle blog, The Tig, the mother of two previously disclosed her preferred location for a girls’ getaway, and it looks every bit as dreamy as it sounds.

The French-speaking Caribbean island of Saint Barthelemy, also known as St Barths, was the setting for several of Meghan’s blogs.

According to Business Insider, St Barths has become a popular travel destination due to its abundance of gorgeous beaches, high-end yachts, fashionable shops, and mouthwatering restaurants.

But the Duchess was drawn to it for more reasons than merely its opulence.

The mother-of-two loves the white sand island for its “Francophile sensibility that is just as island-esque as it is chic, quiet beaches, authentic Creole food, and a place where strolls down cobblestone streets and visits to French pharmacies rival those found in Paris”.

Meghan disclosed in her blog that she prefers to take a low-key approach when travelling, “with a healthy dose of swanky goodness peppered throughout”.

Describing herself as a “mermaid [her] friends could not drag out of the sea,” the Duchess shared that Grand Saline Beach is the best spot for crystal clear waters and the best island atmosphere.

Meghan additionally told her readers: “The best part of Saline is perhaps that it’s a stone’s throw from Le Grain de Sel, an authentic Caribbean restaurant serving up Creole classics.

“Do not miss this food gem, where the bites are as transportive as the vacation itself.

“Without question, St Barths remains an ultra-luxury destination, but with a little scouring, you can find a respite from the fancy fray or dive right in – whatever your pleasure, this island does seem to have it all.”

Interestingly, Meghan’s love of travel, though, extends back to before her acting days.

She told Allure in 2014: “My mom was a travel agent, so off-the-beaten-path travel has always been a big part of my life.”

Most people are aware of how tiring travelling can be on the body. In a 2016 Tig article about her travel necessities, Meghan equated travelling to “hopping from one locale to another, sometimes feeling homesick, and other times just feeling plain-old sick”.
