Travel: UK to ban flights from Brazil says expert
Portugal has become one of the latest nations to face a travel ban due to concerns over the new variant of COVID-19 which has been detected in Brazil. Due o the nations “strong travel links” with South America travel between the UK and Portugal is to be suspended.
In a tweet, Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps announced: “Travel from PORTUGAL to the UK will also be suspended given its strong travel links with Brazil – acting as another way to reduce the risk of importing infections.
“However, there is an exemption for hauliers travelling from Portugal (only), to allow transport of essential goods.”
The new rule does not apply to British and Irish Nationals or third part country nationals who have UK residency rights.
However, they will face strict quarantine rules.
Mr Shapps added: “Passengers returning from these destinations must self-isolate for TEN DAYS along with their households.”
