Travel expert says Albania will be a top destination for 2024
1. Whistler, Canada
Simon Lynch, global product director at Scott Dunn, explained: “Located 120km from Vancouver, this Canadian town is the perfect place for the ultimate winter getaway. With up to three metres of snowfall in December, Whistler has made a name for itself as one of the best ski resorts in North America.
“Enjoy skiing or snowboarding in the mountains, ice skating, sightseeing and more when you visit this winter wonderland.”
Canada holidays have seen a huge year-on-year increase in Google searches, with many people intrigued to see what the country has to offer.
If you’re not into snow sports then there is still plenty to do in the town, including several spas.
2. Iceland
The travel pro said: “Best known as being a great place to spot the Northern Lights, Iceland is also home to many geological wonders such as volcanoes and glaciers.

“Iceland provides top-tier excursions to see the captivating Northern Lights or its lagoons, glaciers and ice caves that all contribute towards the country’s impressive landscape.
“During the winter you will find snow in abundance snowfall is averaged at a whopping eight inches in December. When the snow is thick, this is the best time to visit Iceland, as that is what will make you feel like you’re in a winter wonderland.”
3. Finnish Lapland
Finnish Lapland sees an average of 30cm of snowfall in December meaning there are a plethora of winter activities to enjoy such as skiing, dogsledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing. It is also a perfect family holiday with the opportunity to visit Santa’s grotto and all his reindeer.

4. Meribel, France
The expert continued: “Meribel in France is the perfect French getaway if you’re looking for luxury skiing. With an average of 78cm of snowfall in December, Meribel is also part of the three valleys, meaning it is in of the largest linked lift networks in the world.
“If you’re a family, couple or solo traveller looking for more to do in the snow on your days of skiing, Meribel has two toboggan runs Mission Black Forest, and the Himalayan Piste, which even run at night.”
5. Swedish Lapland
Not to be confused with Finnish Lapland, almost a quarter of Swedish Lapland’s surface area is home to snow and ice. There are many activities to enjoy including snowmobile safaris, husky sledding and ice sculpting to name a few.
Swedish Lapland has seen a 50 percent increase in Google searches, showing this destination is growing in popularity with Christmas just around the corner. However, with an average temperature of 4C in December, be prepared the wrap up in extra layers.
6. Antarctica
Simon continued: “If you consider yourself an adventurer, Antarctica could be the destination for you. The wild and untamed land of glaciers, ice sheets and barren deserts make it an explorer’s dream. Usually, those travelling to Antarctica will combine it with a trip to Argentina or Chile, for a wide variety of exploring whilst you are visiting that part of the world.
“Antarctica is great to visit in December as it is a drier month with 1.7cm of snowfall on average. Whilst you’re there, you should take full advantage of the animal spotting whilst the wildlife is at its most active. Other great activities include zodiac excursions and visiting The Drake Passage.”
