Teen stops intruder breaking into hotel room with advice from policeman stepdad

A woman said she had the "scariest experience" as a 15-year-old girl when a man opened her hotel room door while she was wearing nothing but a towel.

In a TikTok video Josie, now aged 19, claims she was able to repel the guy by remembering some advice from her stepdad who was a police officer.

The teen slammed the door shut on the intruder before he could get into the room and then refused to believe his protests that he was a member of staff "fixing" the door.

She says: "I think I'm very smart for this one.

"My stepdad is a police officer, he taught me never to let people know that you are alone.

"I yelled 'Hey dad, there's someone here to fix the door'.

"As soon as they thought that I wasn't alone and that potentially my dad was there, they ran. They were gone."

Josie made the video in response to another chilling clip that demonstrated one of the contraptions being used to open a hotel room door from the other side.

The video has been watched more than 15 million times and people thanked Josie for raising awareness about the danger.

One viewer told her: "Ok but the 'Hey dad there's someone here' idea was brilliant.

"You are very smart and I'm so glad you were ok!"

Another person wrote: "That was great thinking babe, I'm glad you were able to think that fast and remember something you'd be taught."

"I'm rarely ever scared but this got me," confessed someone else.

This comes after a safety expert was praised for teaching people how to do a "sweep" of their hotel room when they first check in.

He said it was important to tour the room with a member of staff and look for intruders that might be hiding behind the curtains.
