This beautiful village is located just 23 minutes from London and is said to be one of the hardest to pronounce or spell.

Pyrford in Surrey is on the outskirts of Woking, with trains to London Waterloo taking just 23 minutes.

As a result, the village is home to hundreds of commuters who are looking for a slower pace of life outside of the city.

Being spelt Pyrford you would imagine it was pronounced Peer-Ford. However, it’s actually pronounced as Purr-Ford.

The name apparently comes from the Old English combined term of ‘Pyrianford’. This translates to roughly ‘pear tree ford’, reports MyLondon.

The small village is home to a selection of shops and cafes, with tourists claiming the butchers had “the best pork in the country”.

There are also numerous bakeries where you can grab a coffee and pastry and walk along the beautiful canal that passes through the quiet village.

According to Rightmove, the overall average price of properties was £731,631 over the last year. The majority of those sales were for detached properties which went for a hefty average price of £1,128,927.

There are many golf clubs that surround the neighbourhood so if you’re a keen putter then this may be the neighbourhood for you.

Pyrford is also located on the banks of the River Wey. This means there are loads of pretty waterside walks, but also longer ones that the true ramblers can enjoy.

There’s one walk along the Wey Canal which has a lot of delightful views of the locks, bridges and colourful canal boats.

For other outings, there’s always RHS Wisley which is a short drive away.

It’s great to explore and is open throughout the year. It’s an award-winning attraction packed with horticultural inspiration, and places to eat and drink, making it a lovely place to take all the family.
