As temperatures plummet and the nights grow short, thousands of travellers are browsing for destinations where they can catch a dose of winter sun.

Valletta, Malta makes for a great base to explore the island for travellers looking for adventure – the island itself offers rural retreats while the capital makes for an incredible city break.
Perhaps best of all, temperatures can hover in the mid-20s even in December offering an escape from the Winter cold.
This weekend, the temperature will hit a high of 24C on Friday dropping to a balmy low of only 20C. Saturday will be much of the same before the temperature drops to 19C where it hovers for much of the week.

Tiny Valletta is great for exploring in the mild weather, with many of its 16th-century buildings constructed by the Knights Hospitaller who ruled the island until 1798.
The winding streets are steeped in history, with hidden gardens and top museums on offer.
Valletta was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 – it has 320 monuments in just .21 square miles of space and is the European Union’s smallest capital.
It’s also home to fantastic Maltese cuisine with low-key sandwich shops, bustling dinner spots and, of course, seafood restaurants.

Local produce and handicrafts can be bought in the city’s lively markets while clothes shoppers can find designer apparel at reasonable prices.
While Valletta’s small bar scene comes alive on the weekends the neighbouring town of Sliema – just a short bus trip away – has clubs and dance halls where the party goes all night.
For those looking to relax, numerous spas are located inside and surrounding the city.
