While many British tourists choose to holiday abroad, the UK is home to many incredibly beautiful regions. According to a new ranking by Which? Travel, a gorgeous area of coastline in Wales is one of the UK’s prettiest staycation destinations.
Which? asked nearly 5,000 people to rank the UK’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Scenic Areas. While two English spots tied in first place, a stunning area of Welsh coastline landed inside the top five.
The Gower Peninsula on the coast of South West Wales was awarded five out of five stars for walks. It also earned four stars for peace and quiet and scenery.
Just a little out of Swansea, the Gower Peninsula was actually the UK’s first ever Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. One of its top-rated attractions is breathtaking Rhossili Bay.
Tourist ‘Emma H’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Amazingly beautiful, vast and uncrowded. Go! Shallow beach with deep low tide, sand and rock pools near the end of the bay.”

Rhossili Bay has previously been named the UK’s best dog friendly beach and has fine golden sand perfect for sandcastle competitions.
The region is also a popular surfing area and one of the best beaches to hit the waves is Llangennith Beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round.
At Three Cliffs Bay Beach, tourists can admire some of Gower’s finest limestone cliffs. Another dog-friendly beach, visitors should also keep an eye out for cows on the walk to the coast.

Away from beaches, the Gower Peninsula is also home to around 1,200 archaeological sites ranging from Iron Age forts to churches.
On the Castle Trail, tourists will see some of the area’s finest remaining castles including Oystermouth and Pennard.
Don’t leave the Gower Peninsula without sampling laverbread, a unique type of bread made from edible seaweed.
