A study for 2023, conducted by Christmas Tree World, has compared against their 2022 Christmas market rankings, unveiling the ultimate festive shopping guide for the year.

In the research, the Christmas tree retailer delved into various factors to determine the standout markets, including a analysis into Google search results, Instagram mentions, TikTok tag views, the duration of each market, and the average price of a hotel in each city.

This year, Birmingham secured the festive crown with an impressive score of 8.59 out of 10 in our 2023 rankings.

At the heart of Birmingham’s triumph is its renowned Frankfurt Christmas Market, standing as the largest authentic German market outside of Germany and Austria.

Boasting an extensive array of traditional foods and gifts, including pretzels, schnitzels, and bratwursts, the market is a culinary haven for festive enthusiasts.

The beverage offerings are equally enticing, featuring delights such as Glühwein, Witbier (wheat beer), and hot chocolate.

Beyond its gastronomic delights, Birmingham emerges as one of the most Instagrammable Christmas markets, garnering 20,300 mentions and an impressive 2 million TikTok tag views.

The market’s popularity is further evidenced by a substantial 346,200 searches in the past year, and this year, it takes place from the 2nd of November to the 24th of December.

In a notable shift from its top position in the previous year’s study, Manchester’s Christmas Market secures the second spot in the 2023 rankings with a commendable score of 7.69 out of 10.

Manchester hosts one of the most expansive markets in the UK, making it an ideal destination for families, thanks to its plethora of activities and diverse dining options.

Securing the third spot in the 2023 rankings with a commendable score of 6.67 out of 10, Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland Christmas market establishes itself as a festive hotspot in the Midlands capital.

The city’s Christmas celebrations span an impressive 55 days, spreading festive cheer from the 7th of November to December 31st, providing an extended period of winter fun for locals and visitors alike.

Perched up high in an all-glass chalet, the market offers a unique experience with panoramic views of the bustling crowds below.

Beyond the delightful chalet, Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland boasts a range of attractions, including an ice rink, sky skating ice path, Ferris wheel, and a Toboggan slide, ensuring entertainment for individuals of all ages.
