Could the Dominican Republic be the next Caribbean island where Sandals builds a resort?

Executive chairman Adam Stewart, CEO Gebhard Rainier and other Sandals executives recently toured key tourist areas of the D.R. during an official visit hosted by Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, president of the Dominican Republic.

During the two-day exploratory visit, the Sandals team visited Punta Cana, Miches and Las Terrenas, among other locales.

“When leadership at the highest levels makes time to discuss the power of tourism and investment opportunities that expand its reach, we know we’ve found a like-minded partner,” Stewart said. “This was an excellent visit at a time when we are pursuing expansion goals aggressively. We look forward to the possibility of what’s to come.”

Angie Martinez, ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Jamaica, said, It’s a dream of ours to have the Sandals brand present here. We are honored by the visit and excited by the possibility of our island nation becoming the first Spanish Caribbean territory to welcome the Sandals organization.”

Sandals is in the midst of a multi-year expansion aimed at strengthening tourism’s return to the Caribbean region.
The Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau reopened on Jan. 27, the Sandals Royal Curacao is set to debut on June 1, three new resorts are planned for Jamaica and in 2023 a Beaches resort will open in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
