Spending the summer by the seaside sounds pretty appealing. In a prestigious ranking from the team at Which? Travel, a Scottish seaside town was named one of the UK’s best.

Crail, in Fife, came in third place in Scotland with high ratings for food and drink, peace and quiet and value for money.

Although many of Scotland’s most attention grabbing beaches are in the Highlands, tourists don’t have to travel quite that far for a holiday.

Crail is just a 90 minute drive from Edinburgh and only 10 miles south of St Andrews. Tourists can also visit the historic fishing village as part of the Fife Coastal Route.

With charming cobbled streets and a picturesque miniature harbour, Crail is well worth a visit this summer.

Roome Bay is an ideal rockpooling spot while Kingsbarne is a habitat for many varieties of insects and birds.

Another visitor said they ate the “best lobster ever” in Crail while sitting watching the boats from the harbourside.

Although the seaside town is quite small, there is an ice-cream parlour which is the ideal spot for dessert.

Tourists looking to explore more seaside towns in Scotland might want to check out a colourful spot on the Isle of Mull.
