There is no need to fly internationally to find beautiful spots and dreamy beaches. For those looking to go on a nice staycation this summer, these are the best alternatives close to home.

Cornwall

Amazing seafood and long, sandy beaches.

Cornwall has so much to offer and is the perfect place to enjoy the warm weather by the seaside.

One of the most stunning beaches is Sennen Cove. Years ago, it was thought that mermaids frequented the shores. Years later, the mermaids actually turned out to be dolphins, which can be found at certain times of the year.

St Ives and Padstow are also spots you don’t want to miss.

Devon

Devon has peaceful shorelines, vibrant cities and beautifully wild moors.

The beaches in Devon are in fact formed from the smoothest little pebbles, which make the water astonishingly clear.

Dorset

Dorset is the perfect destination to go on a family trip. Ideal for swimming, kayaking, hiking and cycling.

You don’t want to miss the Jurassic Coast – a World Heritage Site with beautiful beaches, award-winning fish and chips and 95 miles of coastline to discover.

Northumberland

The beaches of Northumberland are considered one of the most idyllic places in the UK.

There is plenty to visit: ancient castles, hidden gardens and friendly little villages. Also, it is only a stones-throw from Newcastle.

Lake District

Cumbria is ideal for a summer break. With one of the most popular national parks – and Unesco World Heritage Site – the Lake District is also the royal’s favourite holiday spot.

Isle of Wight

When going to the Isle of Wight you will feel like you’re going that little further afield without going very far.

Once there, you will be amazed by the beautiful seaside and delicious seafood. The island was also Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday destination.

Whitstable

The pretty little seaside town on the coast of Kent is famous for its oysters and gorgeous beaches.

Canterbury is only five miles away and is worth a visit for a day trip.

Isles of Scilly

The idyllic islands are the UK’s answer to the Caribbean.

Visitors will find heavenly white sands, turquoise waters and climate that makes the islands one of the best UK summer destination.

Only five of the 140 isles are inhabited so tranquillity will be found if that is what you’re after.
