Today, on October 4, the UK's traffic light travel system saw an overhaul aimed at simplifying travel for UK holiday goers.
It will see the green and amber lists merge into one, to become one low-risk list, known as the "rest of world" list. Red list countries will remain as red.
So many of us need a break, it has been a tough year after all. The strain of the coronavirus pandemic has some of us yearning for the limited legroom of a cheap getaway flight and vaccines mean we can finally do that.
So where can you actually go? Here we explain all.

What travel rules apply ? Green list countries
If you are fully vaccinated, then according to the Department for Transport, before you travel to England you must:
- book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test – to be taken after arrival in England. You need to book this test before you travel
- complete a passenger locator form – to be completed in the 48 hours before you arrive in England
If you are not fully vaccinated you must take a Covid-19 test in the three days before your return to England, as well as complete the steps above.

You are fully vaccinated if you had your vaccine at least 14 days before your arrival in England.
What rules apply? Red list countries
If you have visited a red list country, you must quarantine in a managed hotel for 10 days upon your arrival in England.
Before you arrive, you must:
- take a COVID-19 test – you must take the test in the 3 days before you travel to England
- book a quarantine hotel package, including 2 COVID-19 tests
- complete a passenger locator form
This is regardless of if you are fully vaccinated or not.

If you return to England via a transit stop then you must follow red list rules upon your arrival.
