You can rent your own castle on Airbnb that once welcomed British royalty

You don’t have to be royalty to stay in a castle.

In fact, you can hire out a property on Airbnb that’s fit for a king.

Mary Queen of Scot's chamber at Neidpath Castle in the Scottish Borders can be hired out for around £550 a night.

Holidaymakers get the entire royal residence to themselves so can explore the extensive grounds at their leisure.

As well as rambling through the picturesque countryside, they can visit the nearby town of Peebles that takes 10 minutes to walk to.

The historic royal burgh has its own shops, restaurants, museum and award-winning chocolatier.

After a day out exploring the town, guests can retire in the characterful four poster bed.

There’s also a deep roll top bath to relax in, as well as an open fire that evokes feelings of earlier times.

The romantic lodgings also have antique decor, stone walls, a lounge and dining table that’s the perfect size for two.

On the Airbnb website, the castle has glowing reviews.

Guests have given it an impressive 4.98 rating out of 5 on average.

One happy holidaymaker said: "An entire 14th century castle to yourselves. What's not to like?

"It was fun to explore every part of the caste and then enjoy the great living space in the grand bedroom and sitting room.
