Australian travel company dishing out $200 for vaccinated people

If you’ve been waiting for an incentive to get the jab, this may well be it.

Melbourne-based travel agency Luxury Escapes have announced they are giving away $200 million worth of travel vouchers for overseas trips to anyone who has received their first dose of either Pfizer or AstraZeneca by September 30, 2021.

The popular travel agency, who curate exclusive luxury travel deals at a discounted rate, hope the promotion will help give Australia the boost it desperately needs to get more Covid-19 jabs in arms.

The announcement comes just days after one of Australia’s most popular island getaways – Bali – announced they would only allow vaccinated foreigners onto the island in a swift move to curb Indonesia’s growing number of cases.

The incentive, which is running on the company’s website, has several loopholes to be able to access a voucher.

Firstly, applicants must create a Luxury Escapes account and register some form of proof of their vaccination online.

It is understood the first one million people register and submit the vaccination proof will be rewarded with a $200 voucher to use on future overseas travel with Luxury Escapes, but you’ll need to use your voucher before June 30, 2022 (however, the trip can take place after that date).

Speaking to Broadsheet, Adam Schwab, co-founder and CEO at Luxury Escapes, said the initiative highlights the “crucial role” vaccines play in pandemic recovery.

“It [vaccines] will play in ensuring borders open so Aussies can travel again,” he said.

“We hope [the incentive] will give our vaccine rollout a massive boost and inspire other businesses to follow suit.”

Currently, Australia has closed its international borders to all non-citizens and nonresidents since March 2020 with no definitive date for lifting Australia’s overseas travel ban, although mid-2022 has been flagged as the possible date.
