AmaWaterways requiring passengers to be vaccinated for Covid-19

AmaWaterways is now requiring that all passengers be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 to sail on its river cruises.

Other river cruise lines in Europe — including Uniworld, Crystal, Viking and Riviera — are also requiring passengers to be vaccinated.

“AmaWaterways acknowledges that vaccination is an important tool in mitigating the health risks associated with Covid-19 worldwide,” said AmaWaterways president Rudi Schreiner in a statement.

“In order to support this effort and safeguard the onboard experience, we will now only be allowing vaccinated guests on board our ships. The vast majority of our guests are already vaccinated and they, along with our travel advisor partners, have expressed support of this new policy as an added layer of protection to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests and crew on board.”

The AmaWaterways website said the policy resulted from evolving Covid-related protocols and entry regulations in Europe, including some countries now mandating up to a 10-day quarantine period for unvaccinated travelers upon entry.

AmaWaterways said its policy is effective immediately and that guests affected by the decision should contact their travel advisor for options to reschedule if they are not vaccinated. The river cruise line also recommends that all guests take a PCR test within 72 hours of departure and bring documentation of a negative result with them on their sailing, as a precautionary measure.
