Viking confirmed that a vaccinated guest on its Viking Sky in Iceland tested positive for Covid-19 and that there has so far been no known spread of the virus.
The suspected positive test result occurred as part of the line’s daily saliva testing of all guests and crew, Viking said.
“The individual is a fully vaccinated guest who is asymptomatic, and they are now in isolation. Our onboard contact tracing system was activated, and there have been no further suspected positive test results,” Viking said.
The line further said that its protocols “worked exactly as they were designed — to detect any possible case so that it can be isolated and a potential chain of transmission can be stopped immediately.”
The Viking Sky launched service in late June from Reykjavik, where the ship is homeporting this summer along with its sister vessel, the Viking Jupiter, through early September.
All passengers on Viking ships restarting service this summer must be fully vaccinated.
