Wonder of the Seas restaurant to serve Southern classics

Farmhouse-style décor. Live country music. Even a porch swing. These are just a few of the finishing touches on the Mason Jar Southern Restaurant and Bar, which will debut on Royal Caribbean’s new Wonder of the Seas in March.

Royal Caribbean International CEO Michael Bayley announced the news on his Facebook page.

Appetizers include pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, lobster and crawfish gumbo, charred watermelon salad and blueberry johnnycakes topped with barbecued pulled pork.

For supper, guests will be able to dine on shrimp and grits, a fried oyster po’ boy, blackened Cajun catfish, chicken pot pie, St. Louis-style ribs, beef brisket and southern fried chicken.

For dessert, milkshakes can be flavored with peanut butter, banana and bourbon.

“If you’re like me, you love Southern food,” Bayley wrote.

The Wonder of the Seas is scheduled to sail its maiden cruise out of Fort Lauderdale on March 4. In May, the ship will reposition to Europe for a summer sailing the Mediterranean from Barcelona and Rome. The ship will then sail back to Florida and operate out of Port Canaveral year-round, starting in November.
