Rwanda is slashing the price of gorilla-trekking permits to $500 in an effort to aid the recovery of the tourism industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. The permit fees had been priced at $1,500 for international travelers.
All promotional gorilla-trekking permits for the peak season between June and September must be purchased at least a month before the traveler’s trekking date. If the permit is bought less than a month before the date of the trip, the original $1,500 fee will apply.
The Rwanda Development Board has also created flexible booking terms for gorilla-trekking permits during the current off-peak season, enabling travelers to reschedule their gorilla visits free of charge. Free rescheduling is only available for trips that need to be moved due to Covid-related issues. Changes can be made for travel until June 30. After that date, a rescheduling fee of 20% will apply.
