See the Himalayas with Peter Hillary and Simon Baulderstone

The Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF) and World Expeditions are joining forces to offer AHF supporters the chance to join Peter Hillary (son of the late Sir Edmund Hilary, one of the first two people to summit Mt Everest) and Simon Balderstone (accomplished adventurer and mountaineer) on a cultural journey through Darjeeling, Sikkim, Nepal and Bhutan.

The 17 day, non-trekking AHF Chairman’s Himalayan Traverse is an opportunity to appreciate the rich cultural history of the region, stay in upmarket accommodation, meet many AHF long-term friends and associates and to see the full spectrum of AHF programs.

AHF Chairman, Simon Balderstone, says the charity challenge was designed to raise funds for the AHF by giving a small group of AHF supporters a range of unique experiences including visits to the Snow Leopard Conservancy in Leh and the Teacher Training & Quality Education program in Nepal.

“In Darjeeling, we’ll visit the family of Tenzing Norgay, before heading to Bhutan to see the women’s education program in which AHF partners with RENEW, the first NGO in Bhutan dedicated to the development of women and girls founded by Her Majesty, Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, Queen Mother of Bhutan, and Patron of AHF’s work,” Simon said.

This year’s Chairman’s trip has been crafted to allow participants to enjoy day walks without trekking every day.  The group will still experience the splendour of the Himalayas from the arid landscapes of Ladakh to the backdrop of Kanchenjunga in Darjeeling, and the peaks of Nepal and Bhutan, staying throughout in character-filled hotels and resorts.

Peter Hillary, a two-times Everest summiteer and founding AHF Director, says he is looking forward to getting to know AHF supporters and spending time with them in the places where AHF’s work is done.

“This year, the group will see first-hand the daunting problems so many Himalayan communities are faced with on a daily basis,” Peter said.

The AHF Chairman’s Himalayan Traverse departs Delhi on 1 December and costs $11,240, excluding international flights.  In addition, participants are required to fundraise $7,000 per person for the AHF’s vital programs in education, health and the environment.
