The five guardians

Your guides in this new porcelain world are five auspicious animals, representing the five stages of porcelain craftsmanship: materials, styling, pattern, glaze colouring and firing.

Young visitors can interact with Gao the ceramic elephant, guardian of clay and the materials that create porcelain, and Hai the tortoise, created from white porcelain once transported through the Maritime Silk Road during the Song Dynasty.

Then there is Hua, the mythical Kylin in the traditional colours of blue and white, who is the guardian of the exquisite patterns in porcelain, Yu the delicate rose finch showcasing the beauty of the glazing, and Long the dragon who fires each piece of porcelain to perfection.

Together, these animated creatures take visitors on a journey through different interactive experiences to explore the history of porcelain. There are adventures to be had and stories to be told.

And with immersive spaces, from the Future Light to the Time Room and the Porcelain River, visitors will become absorbed in a futuristic world that brings an ancient culture to life.

Bringing history to life

Once known as white gold, porcelain has long been admired for combining delicacy with durability. Almost translucent when it is held to the light, it can survive for millennia, with pieces dating back to the Han Dynasty still being found today.

It is an artform that transformed the world. Even the word itself comes from the admiration for its delicate beauty. Adventurer Marco Polo described the pottery he saw in China as porcellana, which means cowrie shell, as he believed it resembled the smooth surface of a shell. Porcelain soon became coveted across Europe, travelling along the Silk Road to find new admirers around the world.

Holographic images swirl and spin, bringing traditions into the present.

The Ci Park exhibition is a chance to rediscover that history, and it creates a captivating experience that young visitors love. Holographic images swirl and spin, bringing traditions into the present and whisking visitors through the dynasties that took porcelain worldwide.

Visitors can explore 300 priceless pieces from around the world and find out about their history, before stepping into rooms offering unique experiences, from meteor lights that form illuminated rain to interactive porcelain plates that seem to come to life.

A magical world

Porcelain forms such an important part of Chinese history and culture, as well as Chinese influence around the world that Ci Park was determined to inspire a new generation with its story.

The idea behind the exhibition was to engage young people and show them just how magical the world of porcelain can be. Bringing it to life with the five spectacular animals that fly around the exhibition, was just one way to immerse young people in its splendour.

Futuristic digital visual arts place visitors at the centre of this beautiful porcelain world.

Other displays teach visitors about the importance of the clay mineral kaolin to create that strong yet delicate porcelain and the key elements of glazing and firing to create a vitrified finish. And it is all made more tangible with futuristic digital visual arts that place visitors at the centre of this beautiful porcelain world.

As well as interacting with digital displays and marvelling at amazing visual effects, children can touch, hear, and see the different stages of porcelain creation as well as watching entertaining cultural performances. It is about creating interactive and vivid experiences that enchant visitors, as well as weaving together almost 3,000 years of history and culture.
