Outages have been detected at major companies including holiday rental AirBnb and British Airways. Other big corporations like HSBC, FedEx, Delta Airlines, HBO Max, Costco, and Amazon as well as the 911 service on the east coast of the US, have also been affected.
A message on Airbnb’s website read: “This site can’t be reached.”
While British Airways website said: “Service Unavailable – DNS failure.
“The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later.”
At this point, the cause of the problem is still unknown.

HSBC’s website showed a similar message.
Website Downdetector also reported issues with US companies Fidelity, USAA, UPS and Home Depot.
Users on social media were the first ones to report the issue.
“@Airnbnb ss your website and app down now? Unable to access both,” asked one user.

“Looks like #airbnb having issues,” said another one.
“@Airbnb your website and app are down any update? Travellers stranded without check in instruction access,” commented a third one.
Other travel websites affected are Expedia and Groupon.
The issue started around 5pm UK time, when users realised they couldn’t access the sites anymore.
The incident is believed to be linked to Content Delivery Network, Akamai Technologies.
The company said: “Akamai is experiencing a service disruption.
“We are actively investigating the issue and will provide an update in 30 minutes.
“We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated.
AirBnb said on Twitter: “Hi there, thanks for writing to us.
“We were experiencing some issues with the site that are now resolved.
“We’d suggest you to please delete the cache and cookies from the browser and then try again.
“If you’re using the mobile App, we suggest you to uninstall and install again.”
