Michelin quality meals are rare. The guide has been a reference for generations and it awards its stars to only a select few restaurants.

New research by MoneyBeach has looked at the Michelin Guide and at TripAdvisor to figure out where in the world culinary-minded Britons had the best chance of finding Michelin quality food.

Surprisingly, it was not Paris or New York that came on top.

Instead, a little town in Cornwall was crowned the culinary capital of the world.

With seven Michelin rated restaurants, Padstow was the obvious winner.

The town counts only 57 restaurants in total, which made Britons’ chance of eating a Michelin quality meal just over one in ten (12 percent).

Some of the most popular places to eat in Padstow are The Pig, Prawn on the Lawn and Rick Steins Café.

Coming up in second place was Cannes in France, followed by Bruges in Belgium, Macau in China and Washington DC in the USA.

Padstow topped the list, but it was not the only Cornish town to be lauded for its food quality.

The second Cornish town to be included in the global listing was St Ives.

The town came ninth, before Brussels, Lyon, New York or Paris.

Mike Rees, CEO of MoneyBeach said: “Treating ourselves to a meal out is something most of us love to do, especially while on a city break or weekend away, so we were keen to find out where in the world offers the best chance of a fantastic dining experience.

“With the Michelin Guide standing out as a world-renowned symbol of top-quality places to eat, we wanted to use this to find where in the world you’re most likely to get great food.”

He continued: “The results were really interesting, confirming that France is indeed a foodie heaven, while the UK also shows its stars where a good dining experience is concerned.

“Whether you’re planning a meal with your friends nearby, or researching for a long-awaited getaway, it’s well worth using the guide, along with tools such as TripAdvisor, to avoid any post-meal disappointment!”
