The ultra-low-cost carrier this week announced plans to launch new service to Milwaukee and Louisville, Kentucky with seven routes spanning coast-to-coast. Both cities will see new non-stop links to popular leisure destinations as well as increased options on existing routes.
Flights on the new routes will be operated by Spirit’s Airbus A320 family of aircraft, potentially including the new Airbus A320neo. Spirit is one of two US airlines flying the next-generation aircraft known for its efficient fuel performance and quiet cabin, as Insider found on a November flight from Newark to Boston.
Spirit is expected to sooner recover from the COVID-19 pandemic than its competitors by focusing on low-cost domestic leisure travel and flights to international destinations currently open to Americans. The ultra-low-cost carrier grew revenues by nearly $100 million between the third and fourth quarters of 2020 but still reported a $204.5 million pre-tax loss for the fourth quarter.
Here’s where Spirit Airlines is flying in 2021.
Between Louisville, Kentucky and Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Spirit will begin flights between Louisville and Fort Lauderdale, Florida on May 27 with daily service. The route also sees flights from fellow ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air which normally offers twice-weekly service between the two cities.
Between Louisville, Kentucky and Los Angeles
Spirit will begin flights between Louisville and Los Angeles on May 27 with daily service. Los Angeles will be Louisville’s westernmost non-stop destination once the service begins.
No other carriers operate flights on the route, leaving Spirit with no competition.
